From what Im seeing the only real advantage in using 93 vs 87 would be additives for motor cleanliness as lubricity between all grades will be the same according to the represenative that Redbull talk with. I still believe in the shorter stroke saws lower octane will make a tad more power . If using a good oil that cleans well like motul 800 , schaffers, red armor , etc. , spending the xtra $$$ on higher octane will be a waste as the oils already do the job?

Considering my saws can sit anywhere from 2-12 months without being ran....(some saws longer), I don't mind dishing out $70 for a pail of fuel that'll typically last me all year.

Now if I could readily obtain 100LL, that's all I'd buy. But since all 3 local airports won't sell it to Joe Public, I'm stuck with not many choices.

cenex 87 - 46.4 sec 339F
cenex 92 - 46.3 sec 315F
BP 91 - 45.3 sec 322F
Fleet Farm 91 - 47.0 sec 328F
Fleet Farm 89 - 45.8 sec 309F

here are the previous results back in march... (or jump back to the first post for full details)

There seems to be some patterns and consistencies. But doesn't seem real significant. I think the saw ran and sounded best on the 91bp. I think it ran and sounded worst on 87 cenex. That's about all I know.

In that long of a cut, those differences to me are irrelevant. It's so close that I can't see any reason to worry about it.

the big thing that people say is that there is a lot of sediment in the gas stirred up by the tanker delivery.
I would love to see pre and post-tanker gas run through a cloth strainer :)
I tend to believe the fuel filter on the station's pump is going to catch any sediment. I'd be surprised if you ended up with anything more than a soaked cloth strainer. I believe most sediment introduced into a cars tank comes from a dirt fill spout. :nusenuse:
Next time I'm at a station that has the filters visible I'll see if I can figure out what filter it is and what micron size it is.

I dunno I live in a area that they don't changethe filter till it slows the flow and someone changes it. I've seen some dated several years old.

I checked with several marine boat dealers and motorcycle dealerships. No pump gas EFree in RI. Just canned fuel. There wad one place that sells 110 octane race fuel, but I will not use that.

Was it a hand written date or a sticker someone put on it? Only reason I ask is because it might have been a manufactures production date possibly? The point is, the fuel is still filtered no matter how old the filter is and it is likely filtered at a micron size similar to your fuel pumps filter size. It's unlikely you'll find anything by straining it but you could try. Then when your done, use the cloth strainer as a wick for a Molotov cocktail.

Good to know, I'll call before assuming and driving for fuel. Sorry about your luck. Maybe you could move to the main land? ;)

Lol. I checked everywhere in RI. Only Efree fuel was in a can. Only exception was Cam2 race fuel. The octane is way to high for 2 stroke application.

LeeH gets and uses the 100LL AV gas. I will check. But I don't place a lot of confidence in the site.
