Just a little update, started working on it late today (had lots of other thing to take care of), the New OEM 460 pistons do not have notable machine marks, and the new & old pistons both measure the exact same diameter (2.35), so I think the old piston was just fine, but I will use the new piston and keep the old P&C as a set.

can you take a side by side pic. i am currently working on a 460 as well.

Did you double check your wires going to the kill switch? I had a few spots where the insulation was worn off the kill switch wire causing problems.

Not yet, but I got things on order, including a carb, coil and vac/pressure tester.

Tax Season has started so my time is very limited, but I will keep you guys posted.

Now I understand.
Steady as she goes. You are already well tooled, don't need it now. Make this an adventure. These guys have your backside.

I take the plug out, reconnect the coil wire, take a wire w/alligator clips on both ends, attach one end to the bottom of the plug and the other end to the engine block, go to a dimly lit room, and pull.

I spoke to someone today who told me that sometimes the coils mess up on their timing, so just because it is producing a spark does not mean it is still good. This could explain a lot!
Mike, get a plug, break off the strap so the spark has to jump from the center to the outer metal. This will tell you if you have strong spark.

Weak spark can jump the gap with the strap attached.

Only a good strong spark will jump the gap on a plug with the strap removed

MI GO BLUE!!!!
Did you put a new decompression valve in it? It was missing when you bought the saw. They won't run if that hole is not plugged.
