That's not been my experience at all. My 03 pulls noticably better than the 99.

If it's an early 99-pre January build date it's rated at 225 instead of 255hp. They were the same as the OBS with the inter cooler added which netted the 10 more hp. They have smaller injectors and a different turbo

There's more changes than that but those are the biggest in performance. But you probably know all that. Mine is a late 99.

Looking good Steve ! You should enlist his skills to pipes for some race saws!
When he started this project, or I should say, restarted, he wanted to do something different. I think he got the idea from something my dad told me a long time ago and I passed it on. My dad said anybody could put in a bigger engine to get more power. Where the real challenge is, is taking the stock engine and getting more power from it. My dad was taking reference to the Offenhauser engines used in Indy car racing. At the time there was a limit as to how small the engine displacement could be. 177 cubic inches. Offenhauser was able to push over 1000 HP from them. A 4#cylinder engine. There used to be a craze of putting 350 engines into Chevy Vegas. (Everybody remembers those, right?) My dad said why not get that kind of power from the original engine? That would be the real test of skill and engine building.
His vehicle is an 87 Bronco 2. Came with a 2.9 v6. He has successfully put a 4.0 v6 in its place. Along with the huge amount of rewiring under the hood and inside the dash. He has over a hundred hours in the wiring harness alone. And about 150 hrs for the intake and exhaust plumbing so far.
I used to be an auto mechanic by trade but he has surpassed this old man's skills. My only input has been to steer him to places and books that did the actual teaching and help him interpret that info.

The intercooler has two inlets, at the bottom on both ends, and one outlet at the top.

Yea I said the injectors and turbo were the 2 big differences. There was a lot of subtle changes throughout production like anything else

They had way too many changes to remember all. The split shot and single shot differences along with rod changes and the turbo wheel.
