That describes my day pretty well..... seemed like nothing worked....
Tried to pull that bearing but it doesn't wanna move, even after cutting it like a good boy....
Thought maybe I could get the filter mount put back on the Duramax......no go... still getting air in the system.
And the ignition switch done fell right off the steering column on the green Chevy..
Oh well, I guess I'm just not a machanic...

I was able to get the scrap pile burned, so there's that..IMG_20230801_190702.jpg

Cut it as deep as you feel comfortable without getting into the spindle. Sharp cold chisel and a hand sledge will usually crack it because of the hardened state. May be able to take a torch to it and heat it a bit before you smack it. I know heating the race without heating the spindle will sometimes get you enough slack to get it to slip as well. Had to do that to a carrier bearing earlier this year to make it slide off.

Maybe go even deeper...

Whatever it takes.

Trying to fix the wheel bearing on the mill here but the back race doesn't wanna come off... advice please....what am I doing wrong.

My c-clamp is not too tight, just snug enough to keep the puller jaws from slipping off.
I tried tapping on the head of the puller, and also was able to tap on the race from behind....but it's not moving at all.
Any way to cool the axle and heat the race?

The whole thing got way hot when I ruined it driving home, I thought maybe all that heat caused the problem.

I hate busted stuff....

As a metal fab guy just go ahead and heat that race until it slips. The heat transfer to the axle from the race is minimal, not enough to cause similar expansion. What it really is, the race is cocked just a smidgen, not visible. Once the race grows just a bit it's coming right off.

Checked the odometer on my little chainsaw hauler last night. 250K with not a single repair, only maintenance in the ten years since I bought it new. Took a lot of crap for it, but it still gets better mileage than my motorcycle, and hauls me and saws or golf clubs all over the country. IMG_1634.jpeg

Have you seen the 2023 Prius design?

Man, Toyota got that one right..
Even incorporated a solar panel into the sun roof area that gens enough for about 10 free miles a day. Still a hybrid though for long trips.

Works dandy. Done it many times and sometimes I forget how easy to do. I usually do a straight cut since dad does it that way. Races are hardened and just a quick hit after cutting will crack it.

Cutting around at an angle gets you deep into the shoulder without cutting into the shaft's seal surface.

That is impressive. They get a lot of hate for some reason. I drove a friend of mines and I was impressed...

Howdy, men.

Well, we settled in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. We bought a nice (not so) little place in Staunton, right on the side of Mary Gray Hill, which is what I believe they call a "monadnock." The deer visit us daily, and they have what is called "urban archery" here, the season starting a month from tomorrow. I bought a cross bow with a little crank winder for my beat up wrists. Nancy is following her dream career change, working as a court advocate for a local DV support agency. Emerson is 9, and has become an expert bicycle rider, and he found Jesus last year, got baptized last week. Me, I'm climbing trees, managing our tiny stand of chestnut oaks, building a pole outbuilding, singing in the church band, and trying to age as gracefully as I can. We're actually doing OK. Sorry to be out of touch so long. Hope each and every one of y'all is doing well.
We're right near the Lee-Jackson highway, which is pretty cool...

Oh, one more thing. I learned an expensive lesson last month. The GM standard Eaton autolock differential requires oil changes every 40-50K miles. I spent about $3K in tuition to gain that knowledge, so I want to share. I always figured diff oil was good for 100K.
I will say that it is a very good diff, because when I back up our 20˚ slope driveway, the lock engages without me even knowing it, unless I spin it a bit, which gives me two equal-sized black patches, rather than one like my buddy's truck I borrowed when mine went in the shop. It barely got up it on a dry day. Take care.

River is up. Someone upstream got a chit load of moisture. Or, COE increased discharge from the impoundments. 🤔
They have been getting frequent rains across SE NE & just across the river in SW IA.

Flood warnings out north of Omaha, I guess they got dumped on last night.

Yep, I used to call them Pious drivers and thought they should be off the public roads.
There are a number of them with over 300K
that come through the dealership where I work part time. Toyota hybrids are very reliable, wife’s ‘18 RAV4 hybrid has 170K trouble free on it too.
Our daughter lives in MO. and the cabin is 370 miles from here so that explains a lot of miles!
