Hey fellas,
I've got an older husky 61 with a totally wore out spur drive clutch drum....I've bought two Chinese replacements, but the new bearing is way too loose on the pto shaft...
Were there two different sized shafts on these saws?
they did not make any variants I’m aware of.
Should all be the same..
Don’t underestimate the Chinese bearing maker’s ineptitude and bumbling incompetence..

Did you coat those poles with anything where the dirt is gonna touch them?

Nope, you think I should've?

They used cedar logs on that old barn we've been rebuilding, and most of em are still pretty good after 105 years in the dirt, so I figured maybe it'd be okay....idk...

I make sure there's no sapwood on my posts below ground level, because I know that stuff doesn't last long at all.

I have gone to coating the bottom 4’ or so of even treated posts with roofing tar..
So it comes up above the ground level a bit.
Or use a foundation rubberized Foundation Coating

Just add more grease, it will take up the slack.
I tried grease yesterday, but it didn't seem very convincing......we're talking about a lot of slop...like 1/32" wrong size.... seems excessive to me.
I checked a few other saws and none of them have anywhere near as much slop.

I pour my used engine oil on them at ground level

Thanks for the ideas guys.

I've already set em in concrete so I'm kinda stuck with that part, but I'm planning to put dirt around them to get everything all leveled up in the building, so maybe I'll smear something on the part that's going to be buried before we add the dirt.

At the end of the day, it's just a cheap critter barn so I'm not gonna loose much.

It’s the few inches at ground level that really rot fast...

So just spray something around them in that area and see how that works.
NBBT is right about that rubberized stuff..
Works great.

I was just being a bit facetious about the grease. I am in agreement with @Hedgerow on this one.

That is the exact part and same eBay listing I bought, and is all sloppy.
Somewhere in my shopping for the parts an ad mentioned different thread sizes for the clutch on these 61, 66, 266, 268, & 272 saws.
I've got a couple hundred NOS drums. You don't happen to have Oregon, Herr, Carlton, GB, part numbers?

Early are coarse thread, late are fine thread. Diameter is the same on all cranks .500”. The kit you need is this one 501831503, you reuse your original clutch. I just replaced a spur drum on my Jred with using this kit.
