Got the check for the house last week and sent to the mortgage company to hold in escrow. Signed contract with the builder (local company). Set up things so builder and mortgage can communicate with each other. Builder gets about 25% at a time pending progress inspections each time. But it looks like it will be this fall before we get to go home again.
I guess the builder is prolly pretty busy....but it's too bad it's going to take so long.

Nope, you think I should've?

They used cedar logs on that old barn we've been rebuilding, and most of em are still pretty good after 105 years in the dirt, so I figured maybe it'd be okay....idk...

I make sure there's no sapwood on my posts below ground level, because I know that stuff doesn't last long at all.
I’ve heard the heartwood on the Juniper we got here is somewhat rot resistant, but I’ve seen cedar posts I could kick over in 5 years.
These posts will be inside and under roof, so think of it as an experiment...
Report back after inspection in a few years as to how they’re holding up.

I'm hoping it's going to do alright being it's under cover.....

It's just a goat barn and I'm only going to have about $1500 into it, so it's not a huge gamble anyways.

I'm prepared to eat humble pie if it doesn't last more than a few years.....got any good recipes for that kind of pies? Lol.

Any suggestions on what I could coat my posts with in the future?

Tar was used in the past. Coating companies will tell you their most expensive per gallon is the best. lol
45° it dropped a couple in the last few hours, as did the creek from flotsam caught lower left of pic. Prolly dint get the 3-4" predicted. Creek wooda been 5 foot higher than flotsam shows G'day gents

New saw showed up a couple weeks ago. Finally found time to get it out of the box. 550 is a nice saw too.View attachment 370748
I’d ask if there were any extra parts loose in the box…. but I see that sticker so I would imagine that the Monkeyman got them all snugged up.

Hey fellas,
I've got an older husky 61 with a totally wore out spur drive clutch drum....I've bought two Chinese replacements, but the new bearing is way too loose on the pto shaft...
Were there two different sized shafts on these saws?

Just add more grease, it will take up the slack.

I have gone to coating the bottom 4’ or so of even treated posts with roofing tar..
So it comes up above the ground level a bit.
