The big question is...

Is the chassis and cutter geometry beneficial on the new X grind chain???

Better oil carrying capacity. Good.
Pre stretch.. Good.

But what about kerf width? Tooth height?

Do you know of anywhere that a fellow could find say a link on efficient chassis and cutter set up and or grinding techniques? Technical stuff, not opinions.(preferably with pics) Lots of info out there, but since I know Zip, it's harder for me to decipher fact from fiction and since I don't know any of it I don't want to develop bad habit's from inferior methods. Easier for me to learn than unlearn and repeat. Don't go to any trouble, but if you know of a good place to start I'd appreciate it... Matt

The Homelite 340 has an air leak at the juncture between the cylinder and the manifold.
Some dip chit tried to seal it with JB Weld.[emoji35]

It didn’t work for squat. Now I have to dig off the epoxy to get to the screws.[emoji849]

@Moparmyway has rigged up a compressed air cooler for his grinder. I forgot exactly how he did it.

Since these pictures, I have replaced the copper tubing with a LocLine setup. Its easier to move into position and lets you direct the air exactly where you want it

Very nice, doesn't require a large volume of air doe's it?
Besides cooling I would imagine it probably helps by keeping your grinding dust from accumulating in and on your chain, which I would assume would be beneficial to the chain, not at my level but at the level of chains and the effort put into them by you guys. Did you install because you were having issues with cooling and if so did this solve your problem?

You only need enough air to carry away the heat, not alot at all.
Its such a small amount that you dont even feel a breeze.

I put on a CBN wheel, and while it was cooler to grind with, it could still burn the tooth.
So instead of making a wet mess with something liquid, I figured that I'd try air.
The 1/4" refrigeration valve is perfect for regulating the volume of air, and after grinding some real rocked chains, you can easily grab the tooth with bare fingers immediately after the wheel is lifted.

The more that the chain is buggered, the more air that I use. Never really feeling it and never getting anything "blown" at me.

IMHO, problem solved

We used to test automatic chokes on carburetors with a venturi manifold that used compressed air to heat and cool the choke. One end had freezing cold air coming out of it and the other end had smokin hot air coming out of it. It would be interesting to experiment with it for cooling for a grinder.

Guess I'd better get stocked up on LGX.

Good Morning

The geometry of the outside of the cutter is the same from my measurements. Kerf is the same. At least the same as the New LGX blue cutters. The chain could use a stoning. There was 0.020 difference from the tip of the racker to the tip of the tip of the top plate. I think that is just part of the different grind.

The new blue Oregon cutters are harder than the old none blue oregon cutters. But this EXL seems even harder. I have not used a pink OEM wheel in years.

Sun is out and looks like a nice day!
