Good morning!

Yesterday I think I overheated the splitter working my way through some elm. Some of them were pretty hard for the machine to get through. Rather than hold the lever down continuously, I slowly pulse it. I thought enough of the logs went smoothly that it wasn't building up too much heat, but then I caught a whiff of what smelled like hydro fluid, so I stopped and felt the cylinder. Hot. So, I cycled it ten or so times with no load, hoping to move some of the heat away using the fluid. It wasn't all that warm out, and I didn't get that much wood split. I can see why people start putting coolers on their wood splitters. I'd be reluctant to hire myself out with it, if I were going to overheat it. Also, I'm not sure if it's better to idle down the engine when I'm going for another wheelbarrow full of logs to split. I think the manual said to not leave it running when not using it/ I thought I knew more about engines and OPE stuff, but this makes me feel like I'm starting over again.

Maybe it will work better when I get older and move more slowly.... :cunaooooo: I'm already stiff and sore, but once I get going I seem to get impatient with the pace of life. :juggle:

Looks like a nice day out. I've got 7 or 8 pickup loads of hedge to process.

@teacherman The only time I back off is when/if the rpm start to drop to the point of stalling. I've used my splitter in the summer without overheating. This doesn't mean my methods are right, I'm probably pushing it to hard sometimes.

Cleaning up the JB weld mess on the Homie/Solo.

Installed Helicoils in the intake flange.

The plan is to use a couple hex socket or torx head screws going back together. And, Locktite!

I've run mine hard enough that the reservoir tank will give a second degree burn almost instantly.

Thanks, guys. I'll try not to worry about it so much, then. I finished splitting up all the logs I have cut, and I have three metal wood rack brackets coming from HD ($18 per set), which I'll make into 12 foot long log racks. The whole north side of my lot line is going to be a cordwood fence. That will set me for next winter. I have a few logs I was going to mill, but they are looking more and more like firewood to me now...

Not sayin its ok to get this hot, but my splitter ain't the Space Shuttle either.
One of these days I'll find something to rig up as a cooler.

I still have the hydrocooler/ac condenser I replaced off the 4450. It might be fixable if you want to take a look at it just let me know.

Was looking at a Barker GT7 (the one at the bottom of the pic of three) and noticed a Chrysler Pentastar marking. Guess I own a Mopar now.[emoji850]
Thinking about putting the typical Ram exhaust mod on it. [emoji2]

Been a rough evening,
I went to go to supper
And a ambulance pulled up to the neighbors house, Samantha came out screaming so tabby ran in
Kyle was unresponsive, he was a heavy
Kid about 30, he died in front of us
With them working on him.
Left 2 kids. 5 and 2....
All I could do was pray.....
I hurt for them

So sorry to hear that Cobey. Something no one should experience. Praying for all involved.
