Splitter arrived! There is a plywood box on my trailer in the driveway, just in time for the big chill. I am home with Emerson tomorrow, so won't get anything done till maybe Thursday. Saw a 25 ton County Line splitter at TSC today for $900, same engine as my Dirty Hands. It looked OK, pretty similar. Free assembly and free hydraulic fluid. Maybe shoulda gotten that one instead, but no use worrying about it now.

Be safe tomorrow. Schools here are closed already

That, and if it's been hanging a long time, the salt can stabilize the breakdown process so it doesn't get funky. I've done that. I have a bunch from last year that I'll probably not be able to use if it's freezer-burnt. I found a "venison cookbook at TSC this morning for 8 bucks, some fancy sounding deer meat recipes in there.
We vacuum pack everything now. It really cuts down on freezer burn.

It's from 1999, a SilverPro Series, 6.5 hp. Model 10247. It'll sit out all winter, then start first pull in the spring. Has for years. I set the rpm up to spec one time, about ten years ago, and I wash the air filter once a year. It only drinks Stihl Ultra at 45:1. Lot less stink than the 32:1 it calls for.
My habit with my 1969 LawnBoy is to always shut the gas off and run it dry after every use. Never use the ignition switch, just the gas shutoff. Starts on 2nd pull every time even in the Spring.
LawnBoys are so reliable, they should have painted them Orange all over! :) :campeon:

I'll bet it doesn't have a fuel shut off valve, just like the Duraforce models. Its a common problem for them to leak past the float seat on those models. Just put a shut off valve inline. All earlier Lawnboys had that valve because the fuel would evaporate from the carb all the time, untill the fuel tank was dry. Then you had a carb full of gummy oil and had to clean the carb. Shut off valve made life so much easier.

Morning midlanders!

SJSD closed for today. Only a dusting so far but the city trucks are out spreading salt.

My Silver series has no shut off. Banned to the patio last time I filled it.[emoji709]

It is a Duraforce engine, part of the decal is still there. I bought a cheap plastic shutoffvalve and put it on the fuel line some years back, but at some point it failed, and if I leave the mower full of gas on a level surface, it will be empty the next time I go to mow. It all leaks right out of the bottom shaft bushing, I guess.

Are these things rebuildable? The output shaft has a bushing rather than a ball bearing, which seems a bit suspect to me. I really do like this mower, and I got it because it was the only one I could lift up easily to put in the back of a truck to go help someone out when their yard was a jungle.

Do you have a good one? I want to get a commercial one someday, because the FoodSaver brand ones all mess up and don't work worth a crap for me. a real vacuum sealer is definitely on my list, after a truck, a small chipper, well, you know what I mean....

Very old Lawnboys had a bronze bushing. Newer have a drawn cup needle bearing.
