What model Homelite is this? I'm pretty sure Fossil already schooled me once but I have not been able to located that information again.

Are there other Homelite models that were also dressed up in green? Does anyone have one in really nice condition they would be interested in letting go? This could include an Efco version. Asking for a customer...

If it's a 45 cc version it may be a Timberman. Back about 2003 I was a little thin on funds and wanted/needed a 20" chainsaw. Bought a Timberman not knowing any better, and it looks a lot like your JD. Actually not a bad saw, starts and cuts after sitting for years at a time, but should have never been paired with a 20" bar.

Very true, and it only took the purchase of one 'meh' saw to point out the errors of my ways!

Doing a bit of digging, this one is a little more complicated than the last one I did some digging and I'm making some assumptions.

The 45 cc Homelite Timberman looks to share the same plastics as the John Deere J3816.



Looking at the IPL (attached) for the Timberman, it shows the 38cc version using the same cylinder as the 45cc version. The 38cc verstion is UT10927 and the 45cc versions are UT10942 and UT10946.

Unfortunately I can't find any specs on the John Deere or Homelite bore and stroke.

That's about as close as I can get.

Just a side note digging inro my diminishing memory. Poulan 34XX, 38XX and the 40cc saws all used the same 40cc cylinder. Maybe a similar case with your John Deere.

My uncle had one of them because he was a homelite dealer back in the 80’s needless to say he could tell it wasn’t the homelite of old. John Deere had pretty much every homelite in green yellow over the time they owned them. I should have bought the homelite 250/300 in Deere trim up here when the dealer went out of business along with the super xl in Deere colors.

Here’s some of them, I really didn’t realize they sold a green machine “by John Deere” version of a few also and I don’t own any of them just showing you a few to search for. But I will ask locally some of the guys i know

I have a green machines saw, but I think mine is a Tanaka rebrand.
The 350cs is definitely a bucket list saw for me, Leon's is in really nice shape there. I forgot to bid on one on eBay that went dirt cheap not too long ago.

I was under the impression that the green john Deere saws were all made by Efco. I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time!

I asked a John Deere saw guru. The 3816 is a homelite built saw. I stand corrected! He said it's the last John Deere saw made. The prior green ones were made by Efco. This doesn't answer the original question as to what homelite model it is but I enjoy saw trivia!

There was also i believe the model 61, an earlier John Deere saw made by Remington or whoever made the Remingtons and Montgomerywards at the time.

I ordered parts to repair the J3816 (brake handle, rear trigger handle) but unfortunately the rear handle was also broken when it arrived. This inspired me to have a look at some plastic Homelites in the attic and what do you know, I had a suitable donor saw on hand so that project is now complete. Thanks again to Tim for the inspiration.

On a completely different note, this one came in today. I already have a pretty good looking 26LCS in the display so if anyone is interested in a hard case project I have this one available.
