THAT's what I'm looking for. (Raisman at HL Supply is the same price as Carlton at Whites Forestry.)

Should’ve been here 5 years ago lol. Bruce was giving it away for $150 per roll

Husqvarna makes a file guide specifically for the X-cut chain...

The 7/32" and/or filing instructions on the box won't recreate the OEM as-new profile, it'll create a standard cutter shape on narrow kerf chain. I haven't had a chance to mic up the chain width as compared to other chain (as I also like cutting wood), but it does look thinner and the chain is based on Oregon's Crosscut design (in my opinion).

Here is the question: if we just drop the 13/64” file lower until it has about the same angle under/inside the top plate, doe it have the same speed and durability?

Thanks for sharing that.

As far as profiling the wheel, I assumed it would be done like square ground chain ( possibly with something like the SquareJig accessory).

Two-step filing makes sense in the shop. Is it easy enough to do in the field?

Just use a goofy file(edit; the oval style)and cut down into the sideplate .035-.045 depending on how worn the chain is, done.
Or buy the proper roller guide for the chain.

In lieu of tailoring the top plate and side plate separately?
Sort of, I'd still hit the lower portion of the side plate and the gullet now and then, if I did this.
For most the cutting I do, can't see the need to do this, besides I have square grinders if I want a real smooth fast cutting chain.

I rocked a brand new loop of old Oregon 75 , so I experimented with first filling out the mashed corner with a preferred 7/32 then goofy filed in my cutting corner. Kind of resembles x-cut?View attachment 397369
Picture isn't clear enough on my phone to tell.
Did you do all of them, how's it cut if so.

You might want to increase the top plate hook and gullet for speed. That's a lot of cutback, the depth gauge will probably need to come down a bunch.

I usually do the depth guages on the bar after the chain is on the saw, but yeah they will definitely have to be taken down.
