Dad had a 1964 with a 250 in a 3/4 ton, 4 speed with granny gears. In 1st at a idle it was the perfect speed for watching the wildlife on dirt roads. wink, wink.

Not a speed demon but went down the road just fine with a cab over camper, and towing a boat. 67-70 was really pushing it..

Is that a one ton? I didn't know they ever put Cummins in anything less than a medium duty.

Got some work done on the 300 this weekend. Using King rods and mains in this build. Upgraded to hypereutectic pistons. Standard cast rings.

So just out of curiosity. Any idea on why there isn't a main bearing with a thrust face? Or does ford do it differently to control fore and aft movement?

What did you find out on the cam bearings?

Edit: disregard the thrust bearing question. When I went back and looked there was a picture I missed. I see it now 3rd from rear.

Yup, main #5 has the thrust bearing.

I ordered a set of King branded cam bearings. Opened the box and they were just reboxed dura-bond. Nothing like paying an extra 10 bucks for a $30 set of bearings. Anyway, I put them in and they all measured slightly better by a few 10 thou. Rear cam bearing is still out of preferred spec but much better at .0039 instead of .0043. allowed is up to .006 so I'm just gonna go with it.

Got the head bolted down last night. NOS Ford latest design head gasket. Clamped down TTY 50lbs plus 100°. Got this really sweet torque angle meter that sticks to a ratchet or breaker bar with a magnet. Best 100 bucks I've spent on a tool.

Between wrong parts and bad weather I'm finally getting our Odyssey back together. Every single part has been fighting me. Wire harnesses that won't move far enough, spark plug tube seals that won't slip over the tubes, even the valve cover bolts won't find their threaded holes without a mirror and a light. It's good to remember why I changed careers!

So got some work done on the engine this weekend. Found a set of hard to find fine tooth metal timing gears! Bit of an upgrade from the stock fiber gears. Got another set of NOS rocker arms. Learned on the last engine about poor fitting aftermarket rockers. New pushrods too. Nee oil pump and pickup installed and covered up with another new oil pan. All that's left to do is put some lipstick on this ugly chick!

This one Steve. Have it completely tore down and am doing a full restoration on it. It had a 350 stroker, now the 390, with a hand cone pipe
