Picked up a new project today. It’s a ‘71 Chevy 3/4 ton. Been looking for one for a while. I’m actually pretty excited about it…

Nice score Clint. Looks like your well on your way as is. Why did the previous owner quit working on it?

Update on the 300. Got everything back from the machine shop. Everything looks good. Been having an issue finding the main bearings I want. I think I found a set and they should be here Saturday. We'll see if they are what I think they are when they show up. It's one of those reboxed type deals where it should be x brand in it. Otherwise it's almost mid March on the estimated backorder.

He took it apart to LS swap it and just lost the motivation to finish it. Plus they recently had another kid, so money is kinda tight for them.

I bought it without the engine and trans…. I’m going to keep it old school with a 454 & nv4500.

It does have all the body parts and is not rusty. Also an AC cab and has the tachometer in the dash.

That tachometer was worth buying it! You building the 454 or just going stockish?

Got the cam bearings installed last night. Somethings not right as the last cam bearing measures .0013 out of spec. Going to play around with it some more in a few days. Got some other stuff to do.

Now....... You are serious about precision. I have honestly never checked cam bearings. But then again I've never had a oil pressure issues like the one you have been battling. Wonder is the manufacture has some out of spec product going out the door.

I've used clevite77, sealed power, speed pro and fed mogul all with good results. But I know everyone has a preference. Just out of curiosity what brand are those?

These are dura-bond. I forgot to measure the bearing bores in the block before installation so I'm not sure if it's the bearing or the block. I am probably going to buy a set of King cam bearings to match the mains and rods. I have never measured the cam bearings either but also never had such a collosal failure like the previous build I did.

Went to the junkyard today for a parking brake handle for my wife's Camry and cam home with a bunch of 300 EFI stuff. Got a good non smog EFI head! Good set of EFI exhaust manifolds. Good lower intake manifold. Two good valve covers. Two good lifter covers. Dipstick tube, EGR tube with the flare fitting. Bunch of smalls that a lot of people never think about grabbing while they're there. 100 bucks for all of it!!

Been wanting to put a Cummins into a square body for years. So i have been accumulating a few trucks with the 5.9 in them. A t boned first gen with 90000 kms on it. A rode hard 94 2500 with 350000 kms , exhaust brake and new p pump on it. The truck is decent with a homemade deck, i bought it for parts. Turns out it runs but the auto trans behind it was busted form one end to the other deforming the flex plate. And a Ford Cummins conversion that didn't get finished.
Then i traded some tires for a couple 7.3 Ford 4x4 duallys. One has a hydrolic dump deck and runs. The other was the remnants of a Super Duty 4x4 with 10 bolt wheels and disk brakes all around Dana 60's i think
I have a yard full of square body's.
Brought the Super Duty into the shop to strip it to the frame. Then the Cummins will get pulled from the ford and installed into the Super Duty frame. Then a square body will get put on top of it all.
Tomorrow i pull the cab off and put it on a trailer, hopefully get a few bucks for it.

What does the skid need?
Seems like the joysticks (mainly the bucket control side) are not working correctly due to either a bad joystick or some other electrical problem. I got it cheap so even if I have to spend a little money to get it fixed I should be ok.

it’s a 2008 model and is under 900 hrs so I don’t think there’s any major mechanical problems.

The little v2403 Kubota runs great.

When I got out of the bizness in 2007 5w20 and 0w20 were the accepted standard and 0w16 was on the horizon. Ran 0w20 synthetic in the wife's 2011 Accord until it reached 200k, now it gets 5w30 like everything else. Our Odysseus lived a hard life previously and gets 10w30. Store brand full synthetic in everything at our house, including mowers and my 1955 tractor.

Great score! Those are the best kind of junkyards, wish there were more of them. The place I usually go to are really good folks to deal with but not cheap by any means. Fortunately I usually just need the odd body part or NLA dealer part from them.

The old square body all cleaned up. The 250 is a bit weak for my taste. Looks okay though.

Didn’t need much… just cleaned it up, put a new battery & battery tray, and new front calipers. I’m in it about $1700.
