In a way i was being kinda sarcastic. Yes the saws in your collection are excellent saws. i personally love the 064 even the 044 are getting harder to find that aren't scrap metal..
That's what I was implying. Maybe not bastardizing a saw with logging service.

to be honest they don't make too many decent "NEW" saws anymore, nothing but a pain to service and unreliable.

The 572, 562 and 550 are my most used saws, also I build just about as many 5 series saws as I build 394/5's.

The 064/066 is the only Stihl saws I own. I take that back... I have a Stihl pole saw too.

Please.....no pictures of your steel pole.

Like said above, it depends on what type of logger is using it.

The one thing I’d be damn sure is perfect would be the bottom end. *s-word-can any shielded bearings, check for any play. I’ve seen a few cracked cases on early 1122s and had one with a spun pto bearing pocket.
Standard woods port with HD or MaxFlo air filter (660 style?) and you’re good to go. Find a low-use cylinder and you’ll wear out a few pistons (while making a lot of board feet).

Any advice?
I just butcher tree's for firewood
No 064s left around here just pig/dog stock 660s
The stihl boy's run.
394/395 the husky guy's run mainly.

Well, I’m no saw porter or builder, so I can’t help much with that. But I am a saw user. If it hasn’t been done, I like to have bigger than stock dawgs on a Stihl, maxflo for sure, and muffler mod at the least. The stock dawgs just don’t stick out enough for me. I’m always fighting case rubbing. Even if a maxflo doesn’t help with power, it certainly helps with maintenance and air quality for the saw.
