I like it in wood that’s less than clean , it will outlast 3/8 pitch and keep going without a problem, I run it on my 592 , and does well,I have become a huge .404 fan since I started running it.
Good excuse to get a big cube saw for
“work”
I have a 2100 that is set up for 3/8, but when I finally get it running, I will upgrade it to .404.Good excuse to get a big cube saw for “work”
Yea, it’s definitely a torque game over speed, that’s were the big cc saws come into effect,I can get easily twice as much cutting in skidded wood with .404, plus longer chain life over all.
I’m still feel like it’s hard on my 461, not a power problem but more of long term bottom end life.
You see that 2100 build thread by Greg ? , that my saw , it’s a runner for sure,I have a 2100 that is set up for 3/8, but when I finally get it running, I will upgrade it to .404.
Yes ,that thing pulls .404 like nothing,The ported 2100 with the build thread right? 2100’s are super cool saws.
Yeah, I was pretty excited to see the build. Mine has been a project, found it at the dump, missing many parts and with the cylinder packed with dirt. I am almost there, still need a piston and an air filter and I should be ready to give it a go. Mine is stock (not ported), so I shall see how it goes as is and go from there. You saw that 2100 build thread by Greg ? , that my saw , it’s a runner for sure,
The 2100 is legendary, and a favorite of mine, will pull ex long bars all day long,Yeah, I was pretty excited to see the build. 20 cord load of green hardwood is fetching $2,200 in Mi.How much do you guys pay per cord of logs? I used to buy a logging truck and a pup trailer full of logs and it cost me $90 a cord of oak. The last time I bought was 2017 so I'm sure the price has gone up. Just curious what the current price is.
Haul it to me and I will take it I will even buy your dinner while you're hereToo bad you don't live closer. I've been trying to get rid of these logs since summer.

Some White Oak, Sassafras and a Shagbark Hickory (another pile). 10 miles north of the AL/TN border near I-65. Both of my woodsheds are full and I'm trying to empty my Pole Barn of firewood; so I have no where to store this even if I processed it.
I have two 271s, they are good saws...but they have their time and place, definitely will not buck bigger stuff like a 461 will.Ran my very manly very powerful 271. Please try not to drool over it too much folks.
Both of my 271s were project saws, previous owners didn't clean out around the clutch and they became impacted with debris and oil, pushing the brake band against the clutch drum while it was spinning, overheating the area and melting the housing, oiler and needle bearing. It looked pretty nasty almost like they were running full throttle with the chain brake on. Took a bit of doing with a dremel to get rid of enough melted plastic for everything to work properly. Eventually I will replace the cases, but they both still work well as they are.I love the little guy. Has a mess of hours on it, only repair was something jammed up the flywheel so I pulled it out and back we went.
