I got a little this afternoon. I dropped and blocked up 3 dead standing oak wilt trees. I brought out my XS 550xpg and XS 400c. I never used the 550xpg. The tree tops were all dried up and had no good limb wood. I dropped the second tree on a four foot high rock and shattered the top. I also almost rocked out on a cut, dam rocks are everywhere! I blocked up the wood into short pieces for my cabin.

Finished up the HL score today. She will be getting the rest of the one with my 365sp pictured taken down next year so I get dibs on all wood.

I should have added that it may be its final load with me. Been a good truck and I will miss its mightiness.

Finished a row and will mess with remaining logs after deer hunting. People are hunting just south of me, they think chainsaw scares deer. When winter is full force, it's like ringing the dinner bell for them, especially cutting cedar.IMG_0554.jpgIMG_0555.jpg

I sell a little smoking wood and here is a large twin trunk hickory we had that evidently was really two separate hickory trees. It had developed a large hollow area between the trunks. I tied the two trunks together about 40ft. up and felled them both at the same time cutting about 6 ft. above the ground. The wife pulled with the Dodge using about 250ft. of 5/8" bull line tied about 50ft. up the larger stem. The tree had died and was so hollow that I had to use very small face cuts(one on each stem) as each stem was hollow where the hinge would normally be. I left more holding wood on one side of the largest leader because I was scared, lol. We pretensioned the pulling line as both leaders had a slight back lean. She pulled fairly hard with the truck resulting in some busted wood and some very loud sounds as it busted off. Other than the pre tension she did no further pulling until I had got away from the tree as I was in a very precarious position. We used cell phones to communicate. It went right where planned which I see as being a bit lucky.

We ended up getting a little over three cords of hickory smoking wood cut short and split smaller than we usually do firewood. Saws used: 241C, 362C and MS460. All three hand file square ground.

@Duce nice work Sir.

The split stacks do you leave them as is in the elements to age and dry?

I have some bucked logs in the elememts and trying to decide what to do. Semi aged they will need two more seasons to dry properly.
Some of those rows are uncovered and 4 years old, it's 99% red oak and no rot. Wood in crib is 4-5 years old except front row. I just keep wood off the ground using 2x4's or whatever scrap I have.

Pops and I filed a couple trailers for an elder neighbor yesterday. We spent more time shooting the breeze than working but that’s how it goes sometimes. The IH886 got to see some action along with the home made splitter Pops built back in the late 70’s.

Don't see that style of Ranger around much anymore.
I’m the third owner. I bought it from my father in law who bought it from his father in law who bought it new. It’s started on fire on my now wife in high school so I had to buy it when I was offered it. It’s got a shade under 100k on the clock and is in pretty good shape. It’s only ever been driven in the summer months so no salt ever which is probably why it’s still in as good of shape as it is.

Man, that's impressive. That's nothing in terms of mileage. I thought I was doing good with my 85 Silverado only having 155k on it. I love vehicles that have a story amd family lineage. 👍🏻

I have a 98’ Grand Cherokee with 48k on the clock that I purchased in ‘05 and am technically the original owner as it was the dealership owners toy and still owned by the dealership. Bought it in Illinois with 22k, built the 360 into a stroked, supercharged, intercooled, meth injected 410. The motor in that configuration has around 20k on it. It’s a blast to drive but the Ranger gets more looks and nods lol.

I have a little 4BT Cummins sitting in the lean to that is destined to go in the Ranger “one day”. Paired with a 5-spd and some really short gearing it’s going to be a riot to drive.

That Jeep sounds wild, but that Ranger setup would be even more wild. That's awesome!

Jblnut are you still running mpfi on the 408 or have you gone to something else?
Currently a Eldelbrock Pro Flow 4 setup with a fair few tweaks. Looking to get an EFI live setup on this winter but I’ll need roughly 8 miles of rewiring make it all work. The Magnum platform was the wrong one to try to take to 600hp lol. As it sits it makes 505hp to the rear wheels and runs a 12.5 sec 1/4 so it’s already fun. We always want more though so we’ll see what the checkbook allows. OPE and the fantastic for sale sections have gotten in the way of a few things lol. “Do I need ANOTHER saw ?” “No but it’s always good to have a backup”. “Well okay, ship it out!!”

The Ranger will be at around a modest 150hp when I get done with it if it ever happens. I have almost all the parts to do it, just have to do it. Right now it’s a very bone stock V6 automatic 2WD. It’s fun now and has given me zero motor related issues but not much shows up when you only put on 1,000 miles a year. I do hook it to the occasional heavy thing to burn the carbon out and it hasn’t said no yet !!
