I was working on a pile of black locust with one of my 572s with 24" 404 set up . The second cut I rocked the chain . The area I cut in is full of rocks .

I went out to block up the black locust logs that I rocked a chain yesterday morning . I just found these logs yesterday morning . They were probably left from the logging company in 2019 . The nice thing about black locust is its rott resistant . Laying on the ground for 3 years and no rott . The logs are hard as a rock .

We like to use them for fence posts if we find any

When the landowners I cut for were boy's , about 50 years ago . They used the locust as fence posts . Well , 50 years later the fence post are still there and in good condition .

Good for the smoker, not so much for firewood.
Fake news!
Apple is excellent firewood. I got started burning with what ended up being 16 cords for a $1 permit. And processed MUCH more than that for a few years. A lot of work for a little wood, maybe. No one ever called me the lazy type.

Always found it to be fine heating wood.
I stand corrected then, I figured it was like cherry. You only see fruit woods for sale here for stick burners, The price is typically double what traditional local hardwood by volume. I was burning soft maple yesterday, it was chilly in the morning but didn’t need a lot of heat all day.

Cherry is also excellent fire wood. Almost any fruit tree is In sure there is exceptions but as a rule fruit /berry trees are top shelf fire wood. Mulberry is another favorite of mine just takes forever and a day to dry out properly

Mulberry is one of my favorite firewoods. And watching it go from neon yellow to brown and finally a dark red almost brick colored gives me a pretty good idea how far along the seasoning process is.

Cherry is like soft maple, burns quick and doesn’t put out a lot of heat. It smells and looks good though. I have 4 sticks in my wood evaporator that is just a display setup now after installing my stove. Cherry makes great smoke on ribs.

Apple is way up on the BTU charts. Just a scosch below black locust!
