Does Muffler Modding alone help a 462?

Where's the advantage in MT there? More maintenance? More cost? Is it actually reducing carbon output? Where is it? It's like an even more costly version of a flippy cap.
The advantage is that it allows me to be a lazy POS and not have to tune the saw. Or even know how to tune a saw. Just pick it up and cut.

That's worth something to a lot of people.

I can usually tune a saw better than mtronic or autotune can, but the average “farwood” guy with his mighty 290 farmboss can’t. That’s where the advantage is. Its always tuned close to optimum when you pick it up no matter what... as long as the mtronic/autotune is working properly. When there not working right it’s beyond aggravating and you wish you had a normal saw. It seems like the manufacturers are making good strides in making the systems more reliable recently however.

I've seen your saw-tuning perfection hard at work.

Your reference to the XS 7300 I assume? If so I didn’t tune that saw and yes... it was left fat for break in. As I believe I said before. Now that I think of it... that is another thing that I like about adjusting it yourself. You can leave em a little rich for break in on first few tanks.

Some of the best tree workers I know can't tune a chainsaw. It isn't just farwood guys.

I'll bet 90% of chainsaw users in general can't tune a chainsaw.

I think the manufactures are seeing that restrictions to the muffler leads to the saws holding in the heat more and are doing.a better job then before at taking this into consideration, and that a MM is not gaining what it did on previous saws, not a bad thing imo

Tis'... It's a God send for saw modders and tree service guys who have no idea how a chainsaw works outside of pulling the trigger.

I believe holding heat in was the whole idea, it helped burn off unburnt fuel. The new saws are have better effency and don't require such restrictive exhaust outlets to reduce emissions.[emoji111]

I did a slight muffler mod to my 462 and it runs well, but I did not touch the baffle. On some other models, when you mess with the baffle (and don't port the saw) some of them loose torque.

The stock muffler outlet on the 462 is larger than most other new saws, but not as large as the much older saws. Likely, it the saw remains stock, minor muffler mods will work the best.

M Tronic (Autotune) saws are a great idea!

On a day like today, when it starts out in the low 30s and finishes in the high 50s, you don't need to carry a little stupid screw driver all day long.

And when I go from my house to my cabin (500 ft to 2,200 feet) I don't have to fiddle with tuning the saw before I use it … great stuff!

Not even fair Kevin...
Darryl can tune a saw with the best of them...
You tune newly ported saws on the edge from the getgo?

I run mine a bit on heavy side for a few tanks, then gradually sneak up on it... just me...
