Guess a guy needs to use the same saw one bar drilled one not and cut for a full tank same conditions with new chain on each and measure bar and chain temps to see what’s actually going on.

I did that with my Iggesund Forest 115DL 36" 3/8" bar, ground open the hole on one side, left it factory stock & fancy on the other.

I disliked using the factory oil inlet side due to low oil delivery to the chain.
Since I diligently flip my bars to wear them evenly I eventually ground open the factory fancy hole to a big ugly hole.

I think I have one more bar with such stupid elaborately shaped tiny holes that I ground open only one side.
I will have to check.

In regards to manufacturers, they:
- have to comply to environmental restrictions and regulations
- they may sell less in volume, but they sell more expensive whilst having to warrant less
- they do not care about longevity, a product only has to endure the warranty period at best

Don’t think a bar has a warranty on it even

I am not looking for a fight guys!

I am merely trying to offer easy solutions to an ever dragging on issue.
Take it or leave it - I neither win nor loose anything either way.

Cheers, have fun, stay safe! :beer-toast1:

@whilhelm
sure a bigger hole can flow more oil.
But the pump dont pump more oil because of that.

So the theory of the new fancy oil hole that are not simply drilled in. Don‘t think the answer is so easy as what google Ai told u.
And I bet Stihl does more R&D on that.
When they only reduce oil flow for environmental reasons. They could make bars with smaller holes and are done with that. Easier to produce, cheaper, no R&D and so on
