The mysteries of the hybrid remain just that to me. I'd like to believe I could learn, however. I am a relatively intelligent man with a fantastic memory.Matt, you basically just swap the piston & cylinder on a 12 mm 044 or 440. Cylinder needs mods to fit.
The muff dimensions are exactly the same, but when you put a 460 cyl on a 440 base, the bottom of the muff needs spacers.
Getting it to run up to potential involves other secrets.

For milling you don't need speed. I've got 2 075's here that could be had cheap compared to pretty much any other big saws. This one has a pretty much brand new 42" .404 on it

A longer rod will not increase your stroke, the crank determines the stroke, the rod length will just change the location of the piston (and rod angle).
No machining on the base with .040" more height at TDC
