just to ask the question again, because I think it got missed, is there a particular thread on how to build a hybrid .... or what it takes to build one?

slacker

see comment above

ill take it off yer hands in pieces....or walk you though the easy rebuild of one...don't listen to those slackers above....they're husky boys anyway. open up the muff and they wake up nice. the only oddball thing is the throttle linkage and the tank/handle. easy peasy once ya done it. now me, put a husky in front of me and I break out in sweats. 441....no probl.
I sure am. Slacking big time any more.

kids and aging will do that to a young guy....priorities change.

wait till you get to be my age....you can't even remember what you were "interested" in...before you need a nap to decide....
then its sleep time....and next day comes.........rinse lather repeat....

Working on saws all the time got to be no fun and a big chore I had to force myself to finish them. Still have a couple to finish:eek:

hybrid jug clearance 012.JPG
You have to grind the transfer bulge so it clears the flywheel ,be careful ,you can grind through if take too much off ,both sides of the base need ground off some to fit between the 440 cases also ,the base bolts need slotted ,a chainsaw file does a good job at this .
will need 2 spacers for lower muffler bolts ,i just use 2 5/16 nuts
440 hybrid jug 003.JPG
and there is a plastic lip inside the plastic needs cut or ground out ,i just use my carbide bit and grind it out .
440 hybrid jug 007.JPG
Parts in yellow are where the side of jug needs ground on
440 hybrid cylinder 002.JPG
I clearance the case right here where the green is so the piston skirt has less chance of hitting it ,it also looks better .
440 hybrid 10-27-14 004 edit.jpg

Edit another thing i do is add the early 10mm flywheel to the 440 ,it is a little heavier ,with a longer bar it helps keep the chain spinning under load ,file about 1/3 of the flywheel key to advance the timing ,hold the flywheel counterclockwise against the keyway when tightening the nut ,i use an electric impact so it does not move on me ,just be careful when using an impact ,if over tighten can strip the nut out .

The Hybrid is the best power/weight option, but also the hardest to do, and must be done right to get full potential. CFB is one of the few with the expertise to do it right.

There was a thread on building one on the AS site, but building one, and building one that runs like it should, are two different things. Lots of mods needed to the cylinder (slotted holes, reduced fins, etc.) It is easiest to start with a 12mm 044 or MS440 case & crank.

The 441 is the smoothest option, it has spring AV.

I have a Stihl 28" light bar on my CFB Hybrid, and it is one powerful light weight option. Sounds like it would be perfect for you.

I also have a Chinese 660 with the Cross MMWS P&C that runs very strong. I plan to see how that saw does milling also.

Power to weight is important to me, on a 10 hour day logging I probably have the saw in my hand for 8 hours. Im not super vibration sensitive but if the saw is a real rattle trap I suffer, having broken many bones in the past is a real downer!
The hybrids seem to be a bit smoother than a 044 or 046's I've ran. Part of it depends on who ported it, good or bad AV mounts, how much compression and how agressive the chain is.

Chain is always a determining factor for vibration. When felling I tend to leave the rakers higher and not gouge out my gullets so I can do bore cuts more smoothly. On the landing bucking? Just the opposite, I want that big ole landing saw to eat!

If my memory serves me right Jeremy @Adirondackstihl was working on AS when the big meltdown happened and most of is wandered over to this place. I don't know if he ever finished the thread or not after Darin changed his avatar to a steaming pile of pooh...

I don't think he did and said he wasn't because of the *B-S.... @PA Dan was building one at the same time and was a shared thread

So....there isn't a different crank between the 440 and 460?

Just to read this right....

440 muff is ok but needs spacers

Mods to the cylinder and cases and top cover for fitment.

Got it
