Safety Matters and should be taken seriously, but lets be honest not all gear works for everyone so this can be a thread for comparison of the various items available and we can help each other find the right gear at the right price.

I like my Stihl helmet alright. It's pretty dorky, but I try not to work in the woods without it. I took the screen off the front, so it's just the hat and muffs. I like the muffs being mounted to the hat because I can push them back and out of the way when I don't want them on, but they're right there when needed. The screen just got in the way.

PS: @leadfarmer got it right, Dave, you wear them chaps real nice:). Good seeing some PPE in the get together pictures.

I wear chaps but hate the bulkiness of them. A guy I know who does tree service work wears Phanner gladiator chainsaw pants and swears by em. Anyone have any chap to chainsaw pants comparisons? One more flexible? Less bulky one over the other?

I like my husky chaps and wear helmet occasionally. Only thing i dont like is the muffs make wearing sunglasses uncomfortable. Wish i had a pair of new stihl chaps. They look good

I have a pair if Swedpro chaps. I mean there's nothing wrong with them but they are just bulky. Always catching the buckles & straps on stuff.

Back on topic :)
I do like the Husqvarna chaps alot very comfortable and breathe well, i havent gotten swamp ass wearing them even when its warm.
They have 9 buckles so you can get a tight fit so if the saw grabs and tries to pull the chaps away from your delicate flesh they stay put and clog up the sprocket with fibers as they were designed to.
I have a nice Husky helmet but just never wear it, all my cutting is on the ground strapped to a stand :)
Decent muffs and safety glasses are standard.

Interesting. Has anybody heard of or tried these Pfanner gladiator pants? No buckles or straps to get caught on anything I assume.

I haven't heard of that brand, but the guy who taught the one and only chainsaw safety course I've taken swore by cutting pants. He was a logger full time and said they were way more comfortable and less stuffy than chaps.

I've wanted as pair for a couple years, but haven't pulled the trigger.

If you actually use a saw all day, not just for a tank or so, pants are waaaay better than chaps.
I've only used clogger brand - as they are readily available in Aus. Ran summer pants for a few years, got some zero pants this year. They are the first time I've been cold in ppe. Great when you are working, but in winter you don't want to sit around too long at lunch.
I still keep chaps for when I just have to use a saw for short periods, and still use no ppe when I feel like it.
