I am not a fan of the CBN wheels. I know that makes me an outlier.

I did not like the finish I got with $100 wheels off Amazon. I could still overheat a cutter, if not careful.

I don’t have a problem with good quality vitrified wheels, *** as long as they are regularly dressed *** (lightly, once per loop).

I can shape them for custom profiles. I can get them for $15 each (or free from guys who buy CBN wheels!).

They do produce more dust, but I try to grind outside.

Some guys report better results with better brands of CBN wheels, but not likely the cheapest ones.

The shelf standard offering CBN might not be your best option, Baltic abrasives will make any wheel profile/material/grit you specify. That said, chain damage and how you prep the chain affect results greatly. I have had very good success with the standard CBN offering wheels. I do have enough loops as well as a great way to clean them that I never have to push a chain where it is dull enough that I need to take big swipes and risk burning a cutter. If I rock it, I just fast grind each side 2-3X to get it even without burning a cutter.

Here is a grinder I’ve never seen before. Picked it up locally…anyone know anything about it? Says model number 22…an internet search doesn’t pull up anything I can find

Does not look exactly the same, but patent number matches, so they must be related.

Note the patent describes a device for sharpening both circular saw blades and saw chains.

Yours may be a later model?

A 462 that went by Randy's place. I'll try to get pictures and see how they cut tomorrow. Just figured I'd try no top plate angle on both and see how they do.
I run 25/55/5, from someone's recommendation in this thread maybe, and have been really happy with those measurements. That's for my bigger saws. A bit less angle on that top plate really seems to help with longevity.

My top handles I run a 30/55/5, and that seems to work good on those.

I'm just a firewood hack, I cut about 15 cords a year, I only own a total of about 15 chains for use between my 4 saws.

I tuned in all my .325 stuff today (7 chains), in a few days I will do the 3/8 stuff after I do some cutting.

I'm not sure I really need a CBN wheel, I am happily satisfied with the grinder and wheel that I used so far, I'm not going to be sharpening anyone else's chains and honestly I dont really have a whole lot of chains I use.

I think I'm going to just run this setup and be happy I didnt have to tune in 7 chains today by hand file.
The best features of the cbn wheels is that the profile stays the same and it stays cool….

I am about to put my stihl grinder back up, hit metal with 2-damn chains on my 18” ms261…litterally about flattened the cutter on both in 2-separate wood piles…

I love the grinder for a chain that’s hit wood and the bigger chains 25-32”….i still like to touch up with a hand file but with some playin around you can get a steller chain on a grinder!!

Yes this is the one I mean….i have heard people say they have it but not many reviews seem a guy on YouTube was getting good results…. I’m tempted to buy one why well not because I need it just because I’d like to have it lol….. I actually have a couple 20 inch rolls of Oregon square ground that I’ve never used in the middle of getting all my wood ready for this year or more at the end of it but I may put that roll on and try it in my 362 and see how I like it if I like it, I might just buy that damn thing. But I also was thinking I may get the wheel first because I think I may be able to set my steel USG or Oregon grinder up to where it may make a square edge I’d have to play with it first.
