I'm wanting to mount one of my grinders on my bench. But the grinder will stick out. Could a person mount it on a swivel base, to turn it around when not in use?
Each of my grinders is mounted on a simple wooden base that can be clamped to any flat surface, and removed for storage, or for use elsewhere (I like to grind outside when weather permits). A potential problem with a swivel base is that it would still be taking up space on your bench.

A few guys have screwed wood or metal cleats to the base of their grinders to clamp them in a woodworking or machinists' vise for temporary use.
(EDIT : was typing my response when Canadian Farm Boy was posting the photo above! Great minds . . . .)

Grinders really need to be higher than a work bench.
That is why my 511a base is designed to let me clamp it to a step ladder - height adjustable and portable!

Using a piece of Unistrut, or a piece of pipe and a pipe clamp, you could also make a height adjustable post for use at a conventional work bench.

Something like this is what I was thinking about, but there expensive. I need two.
I like my grinders mounted down. And I have a section of my bench I don't use. But they stick out on it. So I would like to be able to swivel them around.
Thoughts- good and negative please.

Honestly sounds like you have your mind made up and are looking for someone to say "Wonderful Idea!"

I think you will find they are still in the way and the rotation will get seriously gritty under a grinder. Only you know what works for you though and every shop and person are different. That's why everyone organizes their desk / tool box / kitchen / etc their own way.

No im not looking for ( wonderful idea) I would like a swivel base that will work without spending a lot of money for it.
I'm hoping someone has the ( why didn't I think of that idea) cheap and easy.
I like my grinders stationary.

I like my grinders mounted down.
I like my grinders stationary.

Easy to make a rotating base, with a piece of 3/4" plywood and a bolt through the center. Have a second hole at the side, where you can drop another bolt (and maybe a wing nut) to lock it in place. These are not very large or heavy machines.

OR, mount it on a platform with drawer glides, with a thumb screw to lock it in place. Or place the entire section of workbench on drawer glides to slide in and out.

OR, mount the grinder(s) on a hinged piece of wood that lets you tilt it back, out of the way when not in use. Add a hold down bolt, latch, chain, or bungee cord as desired.

Most of my grinders require access to the bottom for vise rotation.

Awesome, love the drawer glides. Thank you. One of my grinders is very heavy and I'm worried that I will eventually drop it. But I'll look into the drawer slides and see if it will support the weight.
Excellent idea and thank you very much.

What do you think of a boat seat glide. I just need away to back them away from people or myself running into them.

I think @Mastermind made a grinder mount out of a bicycle fork and frame section at one point. It may not have been him.. I'm digging in the way back memory bank. It was for a similar situation, they needed the grinder out for use but out of the way most of the time. The steering stem bearings were the pivot assembly.

That could be a good, ready-made hardware solution. I like the spring-loaded latch.

Hope y'all understand what I'm trying to do. I just need away to getem out of the way.
And if anyone has a solution on how to get people to quit touching your square grinding wheel. I'm all ears. Lol

This is a cheap (not nasty) non permanent way of setting up a grinder outside that is perfect height for me. I was going g to make a stand out of an outside umbrella base/stand but this works so well I just keep using it. 1X stepladder 2Xirwin quickgrips. 1481926055811.jpg
