You can work the gullets down .I typically go clear to the tie strap . I mean you can free hand or use a guide that holds the file to the correct distance in the tooth .A bigger gullet just holds more of a chip before the cutter rocks out of the cut .However if that top plate and side plate don't align in the working corner it just won't cut like it's supposed to .
