Randy is that cylinder savable?

Like Don said, I think it can be salvaged. The width of both the transfers isn't as wide as the exhaust port, so the rings should cross it without snagging. Is it what I'd want on a new saw? Hell no. I'd pitch it in the trash.

based on the photos, those are two different people with a grinder.... the first set of photos you posted is definitely a different level of grinding compared to the 2nd set......

They are both from the same guy. I hate to say this, but Brad is right, the 1st time I got the cylinder only and it was pretty good. This one wasn't supposed to be removed from the saw, and it's the same for the cylinder on Brad's pictures, from the same builder.

This porter has had alota saws out there that kicked butt! There has to be an explanation here for this?

There is.

Health......

As age and injury piles up on us........we lose motor skill. Pretty simply, it was a little past time for him to hang up the tools.

I know exactly what happened. He took many months to port this saw after I paid for it. He told me he lost a circlip when he tried the saw for the first time and the jug was ruined. It was taking soo long, he probably did a quick and shoddy work on the cylinder and sent the saw like this.

Another member just PM'd me this afternoon, he still port saws locally. The guy have 4 saws in his shop right now. I'm sure he can still make good work.

But you're absolutely right, he had several health issues when he did this saw. I hope he's better now.

Hmmmm. But Brad his saws have had a reputation for hauling the mail and Ive never heard much about failures? Seems odd

The first one this guy built me failed after a good year a whole piece of the cylinder broke right in the middle of the lowers, but the saw was a really good runner, but I'll say this: Even on this one, the grinding quality was far behind Brad's work.

I'm backing out. I'm not looking to start a mud slinging contest. I'll just say that not everything is as it seems.
I believe u Brad but this is the 1st negative Ive heard from this porter other than lack of communication and was was supposedly internet problems from geographical location I heard. This just shocks me and unfortunate for Capitaine

At some point there comes a time when we have to admit to ourselves that we can no longer do the things we did for possibly decades without thinking nor breaking any sweat.
The question is will we accept the truth and adapt or will we keep pushing our pride and keep doing what we did for so long wrongly convincing ourselves we can still deliver.
:(

Sorry to hear about Your "jewel" @CapitaineHaddoc !
I see our fellow members will help You bring her back to glory.

No reason to overthink this guys. Guillaume has said he's not looking to slam anyone. Also, I don't see the man in question hanging around trying to drum up work. So........let's just get our fellow OPE member a proper top end.
The MAN !

I'm working on it with Onan18, don't need anything more, he asked a crazy good price.

And Randy, just let me know how much I should send you for the porting job.

Just pay the shipping.

I'll let you know how much when it's ready.
