I know exactly who built this saw. I already salvaged the cylinder on another brand new 346 he did. This was probably a couple years ago now. This is another situation where the builder has somehow magically garnered the reputation as the king of the 346. Not so! Once you put a degree wheel on those ports, you'll probably also see that the transfers are WAY uneven from side to side. The transfers look like he hit them with a cutoff wheel and left them way uneven and sharp edges everywhere.

Now don't throw that cylinder away. I was able to save the one above. It just depends on how bad he butchered it and where the port timing is. Here it is after I re-worked it.

I missed your post Brad, sorry. I will be happy to send it to you, but right now you need some rest, we will talk about it in a few months. Take care of yourself my friend.

I'm surprised to see someone remembered this one. Yes it was the same, from the same guy. But the port work was far better.

Edit:

I just found an old picture of the 1st one I got from him,

Ya his 346s were known to run very well!! Same porting in the 1st cylinder and second obvious from the blending pattern in the lowers. Possibly he was trying to teach someone to take up the port work under his instructions? I think Id clean it up alil and run it also

IIRC, he sent you the better looking topend to install yourself. No? These last two he never expected the owner to see.

I wish I were in a position to help you, but I cannot. I appreciate your trust though. You couldn't be in better hands with Randy though. Of course, you already knew that.

Don't worry, you helped me enough in the past, I will like to have a chance to do the same for you.

And you are right, I totally trust Randy too. Actually I work with his 6100 and it's an amazing saw, my 562's are far behind.

That is quite the statement my friend. I agree that the 6100s are stronger in the cut though. I don't like the way they handle as well.

I figured I'd have a huge number of 6100s to build, but they have yet to take off like the 562 has.

For sure, a 562 handle better and is more fuel efficient, but they can't beat the 6100's torque.

Last week I had some pretty large black spruce to cut and I used this saw with a "20 bar, the others loggers used 461's with "18 bars. You can't imagine how much faster my saw was. This saw is just insane.

For cons, it's a PITA to have it tuned properly, now I tune it in the cut, and I think I find the sweet spot.

Please don't dredge up the past or mention builders that have taken money and produced substandard work. That kind of thing is not appreciated around here.

If this ain't the pot calling the kettle black....

Some guys already know how the builder is, but like I said in the first post, I don't want to say anything more about him. And I know Brad will respect that.

based on the photos, those are two different people with a grinder.... the first set of photos you posted is definitely a different level of grinding compared to the 2nd set......
