I sware, If I hadn't a wife, a kid, lots of good friend and a nice house, I'll love to find a logger's job somewhere in the USA. Not only for the saws prices, but for your f-in' great craft beers!

And I'll love to cut one of these giants tree in Oregon or California!

We have wives and kids and great houses too. Heck we even have French fries and French toast... come for a visit...stay for a life. And we got some pretty good wines here too.

I've never hung a ring, but I've lost a circlip. The damage wasn't too bad. I lost a piston and cylinder, bottom end of the saw was fine. Just a "clunk" and no compression.
Maybe someone else will chime in who has hung a ring, but I can't imagine a catastrophic failure.

Ive hung a ring in a MS460 where the ringend popped into the intake. Running at 14000rpm and it just goes dead is a bad sound!!:D

No doubt! Do you get what I'm thinking though? At this point it's a worthless p&c. Nothing to lose, except a walk to get another saw?

I may have an old 345 plastic case, maybe I'll try to improve my grinding skills on this cylinder and use it with this case...

Capitain it appears the uppers were cut with a stack of cutoffs best I can tell. A right angle in there could clean it up and then chamfer the edges. Alil sandpaper and emery along the edges and it would be fine IMO
Yep
Thats what I was thinking too.
That's how that notch got there

Actually, I have the right angle Dremel tool, but it won't fit inside a 346 cylinder.
It was definitely done with a dremel and cut off wheels. I've done quite a few 346s lately. If you need any help I'd be glad to port a new cylinder for you. My cost for a new 346 cylinder kit is 80 bucks if you need one.

Thanks buddy, but Onan18 already asked a few builders, I'm just waiting for the answer. But I really appreciate.

Have Joe send it to me Guillaume.

I know the guy that did this saw........and I'd gladly fix it. You'll never hear me say a bad thing about his either. As I get older I get it.........

You all know I'm always slammed, but I have a 346 apart on my bench that I can set up on. Simple stuff.

I know exactly who built this saw. I already salvaged the cylinder on another brand new 346 he did. This was probably a couple years ago now. This is another situation where the builder has somehow magically garnered the reputation as the king of the 346. Not so! Once you put a degree wheel on those ports, you'll probably also see that the transfers are WAY uneven from side to side. The transfers look like he hit them with a cutoff wheel and left them way uneven and sharp edges everywhere.

Now don't throw that cylinder away. I was able to save the one above. It just depends on how bad he butchered it and where the port timing is. Here it is after I re-worked it.

This is probably the best way to go. Let's do this. Thanks for everything Randy.
