Shipping is obviously the killer, but it’s still pretty cool to be able to test saws all over that country/world on the same playing field. It’s a lot cheaper to ship a saw than drive that far, and it’s a level fieldGuess we could stick with sending entire saws.
Just trying to think of something others could participate in if they wanted. Without spending a ton of $$
A cc class let’s more people compete, more brands = more peopleI'll keep thinking.
Guess it dosent have to be a new build.
But it would be fun to get all of the same model, to run .
Don't know if we could get enough interest in one model to make it worth it.
That’s kinda what I was thinking too. It’s the easiest, but not everybody has one. I still think it would be a pain for joe, even if he had help it’s a lot of work. And your still have case deck differentials that would change squish and port timing, even ignition timing could play a factor from different saws, I know they would be the same for the test, but not the same as the builders saw. I see a lot of variables that would spark complaints. And then the carb tuning...from one cylinder to the next...and if they send a carb someone will say that’s not fair.I think a 365/372 series would be easiest. Send in the muffler to intake so all he needs to do is pop loose the muffler brace and cylinder bolts right quick. If you do need the piston send it as well. The only issue would be no gasket saws but I’ve fired up a ton of them as soon as I finished assembling them with no leaks.
Only having a little fun with ya Mike. Your saws are good strong saws and the Tiger is pretty fine for $300 worth! I actually felt bad after posting the mascot kitty pic & was going to delete it today. I don't have the nuts to send one of my saws to run against the Deeter hybrid, it would embarass my saws & I'd feel sad.Well, at least I had the guts to send something, what have you sent???
And, although my saw did not meet my optimistic expectations, if it were paired with any stock 660, 661 or 395 (instead of being compared to DEETs incredible saw) it would have looked quite good.
The total cost of parts for this saw, including the OEM piston pin bearing and recoil rope were under $300.
Bottom line, it does not have to be the best, nor did I ever claim it would be. It cuts wood very well and will continue to cut wood very well. It is especially useful when you want to noodle large hardwood rounds.
I like the saw, I'm keeping the saw, and I'm not embarrassed by the results, the RPM range of it's strength was just lower than I expected.
The saw is well mannered and not peaky and is a darn nice saw that you can lean on. So, darn your earmuffs!
Mike I think it's a pretty good achievement to get a box of questionable parts from the PRC & actually turn it into a reliable work saw that hangs with your other saws that cost 3x as much. You have used that saw a good bit for a while now and it's still going strong, that says a lot about how you build a saw. Any d#+K like me can push keyboard buttons and take the piss. I'm sorry if I offended you or the roaring Tiger. Also, let's put this in perspective. I did the final port work to this saw MYSELF, using a tool from HF that cost $6.99 (on sale).
I am not a professional builder, I'm just a hack that likes to play, so I don't have the experience, tools or knowledge that some of the real saw builders have.
Other than the DEET's saw, not many have submitted stuff they worked on themselves.
So, for an all Asian saw, with the final port work done by myself, I'm pretty pleased with it.
Some folks underestimated what my saw's performance would be more than I over estimated it.
Yeah & that too. It did cross my mind though, I'd love to put one of my stock Solo 681's on the Dyno. They have a great broad torquey powerband. While I use my ported OEM 660 most of the time, when I run that Solo I kinda alway go 'wow'!Don’t get the sads. Probably cost you $300 US round trip. I wouldn’t either.

That would be an exciting shoot out. I would send my OE but it’s a BGD and ported by a hack lolThat’s why I said everyone send their whole intake to muffler. Give Joe and rpm to tune to and run it. That way the only variable could be the ignition timing but they’re so finicky I didn’t advance them much or any. The cases I’ve used have been real close through the years so I don’t think that would be a factor. It would be cool to see OE, Xpw, and xtorq all in the same day
Booyah echo 2511t shootout! Get them orders in this morning for the 15% off deal from Bruce.Top handles are cheaper to ship... and buy
