Ditto what Jeremy (Adirondackstihl) said.

You also may want to review the procedures your Dad uses to start the saw, there may be an easier way. I am well past 50 and I start my ported 460s w/o using the compression relief, and they all have timing advance.

If your Dad has other issues, perhaps a smaller - lighter saw should be considered.

LOL! My dad was a logger for years. If I suggested a different start procdure I'd be due for an ass whooping! He's well past 60 if you're counting.m:beer-toast1:

I've yet to find a good saw shop North of Seattle...
I have yet to find one too in my area. I rely on the guys here for their knowledge and many of them can either sell you what you need or give you a lead. I have yet to have any bad dealings with anyone on ope and many have amazed me with their generosity.

I'm not up on em at all, so I can't say.

Is your Dad's 044 stock? They respond very well to a few simple mods, and they are great saws, one of the best for power - weight out there.

Is there any porting that makes them easier to start? Or is it a thicker gasket and retarded timing all that's in the playbook?i Iwant to get him a lighter bar (he's running a 32)

Not sure, I would think retarded timing and decreased compression for a start but then again I am a hack with a horse rasp.

The Stihl ES light bars are way lighter than the standard bars. I run a 28" on my 440 and it balances perfectly. It feels like a standard 20".

Do we know if this is a 10 or 12mm saw yet? Junkman may have one left over from his hybrid. They're about 2.5 hours away from each other
