What's your preference for building a race saw? Purely from a saw vs saw standpoint.
This isn't for the purpose of deciding on one or the other, I just don't recall ever seeing or hearing much on the topic. I know the 3120 is not favorable with the stock con rod, but all I've ever heard about the the 1124 series saws is 084 is what you want but not much about what's up with the 880 if there is anything in particular.
Pics and vids welcome.

880 is more displacement though... correct?

The 088 seems to be the best of both worlds: especially if you consider the late model 880s with the goofy mufflers, further limited coils, & choked up carburetors.

The “84s Do have the Skeleton Crank & are lighter however.

I have an 088 and 084, too different to compare though

I mean my saws are too different to compare. One is on the pipe

That poor saw: I hope it get the help it needs.

I see the 1124s as 3 Different Saws: 084, 088, 880.

There is more in common with the 088 & 880, but there are big differences between all 3 of them.

Im all for the 084.
The 084 can be easily modified to take a 660 coil.
The 084 rod is what the 3120 buys use on their cranks to make the 3120 go better.
088 clip on mufflers suck and make it hard to put a pipe on
New 880's are choked off dogs with limited carbs and coils and smaller intake tract in the cylinder and smaller carb.

This timber is stone hard 11000+ Jenka, 2 to 3 times as hard as oak.

Is there any particular reason for cutting such hard woods with race saws? Is that your thing or is that what all the events use?

Must be nice to build with some of your woods. Make for some sturdy creations.

I'm no expert here at all as I've never run an 088 or 880, but I do own and mill with an 084 and like someone else mentioned carb size. I was shocked when I took air filter housing off, I've never seen a carb throat on a saw that big before. Freakin huge. Also the muffler on mine is a complete open can no baffle no nothing inside. I do think the outlet should be bigger tho.
