The more design revisions a given saw series experienced throughout its production run, the more 'experts' there seem to be on none of them.

Interesting. SO Frankensaw is not a saw built from all different parts, etc. Stihl made lots of revisions for sure. Too many.
Sounds like you have a good one Mason. Nice strong saw. Built well. Nice

Here's the debacle I'm in fellas.
I'm working on an 064 and as you know the 064 intake boot is NLA. So I was hoping to use 660 intake parts, but it's leaking around intake boot behind the carb.
Any ideas what I should do?

That's why it's important to go through and read all the technical bulletins, even though some revisions won't have a bulletin.

You need the 066 style airbox, not the 660 version, which is wider and won't fit 064/metal flywheel 066 tanks. I think I have one here I can send you.

Somebody here might have an old fastback boot laying around. Isn’t the rubber lip wider than the newer one?

Yeah the early 064 boot has a wide lip and uses a metal "turbulator" plate that goes behind the carburetor. It was narrower at the neck to keep velocity up. The early 064
airbox has a shape matching the narrower neck.

If you don’t figure it out I probably have a 066 boot and air box sitting around here that would solve your problem.
Thanks for the offers guys! I'm not looking for hand outs, I'm wanting to know what parts interchange and match (it's like finding the right parts for the older Ford's, that was a joke).
I'm just aggravated because I could have rebuild 4 saws in the time I've looked at IPL's and researched this POS. Hopefully tomorrow I'll wake up with a better view and get it back together the right way.

Just find a 066 flat top air box and intake boot. Use those and the two bushings/rings you have and your original clamp and you will be good to go... next issue will be if your carb has the compensator hole or bot and if your air filter base matches it.

To my understanding I've bought the one and only readily available OEM intake boot stihl offers for 064 066 650 660. So I'm confused.

You have the right boot, you just need the right airbox.
I have an 660 tank / airbox here but when I look it over there are differences that wont work, like the control lever and filter base and cover.
Is there a different airbox to look for?

Part number for the updated airbox is: 1122 120 0102. In your picture, it shows you having 1122 121 0100, which is the earliest version.

Thanks Guys!
So with the 0102 housing will my control lever, filter base and cover work on it?

Now I'm confused!
Sorry if I caused it. Why are you confused?

Yes, the control lever, filter base, and cover that works with your 0100 housing will also work with the 0102 housing.
Thanks again JJ. I got a PM in with Dave. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet but what do you want for that carb housing?
