Thanks for the info Willard, she’s got the metal flywheel, short cases and small end crank stub if that’s any help too
Found my notes.
• Mid 1994 after ser. # 129588002 beefed up crank big end changed from 12 to 13 roller bearings.
•Early 1996 after # 131917066 new poly flywheel and mag side crank bearing increased from 13.5mm to 15.4mm.
•Mid 1996 after #131960509 decompression valve installed on all 066.
•1997 after #143459523 first top cover plastic 066 badge.

So appears you may have a 1995, maybe 1994 with 1996 cylinder upgrade.
Check your serial #.

F9DC14D9-C3A9-4517-9F18-D63A2595C7B2.png Here’s a older 064 chassis. I made it into a 066 hybrid. Has the old bosch coil setup and non translucent gas tank on it too.

So according to your 066 serial # it's a 1996. And your metal flywheel was from a model before that #.
Appears to be from a short transition period when the larger mag side crank stub was introduced before the poly flywheel was introduced.

Was there a metal flywheel in the 2002 and newer MS660 period?
I have no experience or ownership with the 1998 round top 066 into the MS660/650 era.

It’s got the smaller crankstub and seal on flywheel side like a 064.

Either someone put a 064 flywheel half on a 066 pto half or your info could be mistaken. I tend to think the saw was original... had the factory shielded bearings, old style case gasket and base gasket. I was led to believe by someone else that poly flywheel didn’t start until towards the end of 066 production. But maybe I am mistaken?

Sweet now I know I don’t need a different top cover for my early 97!

With that serial number and those parts on that mag side you definitely have a 064 bottom end ....or left hand 064 and right hand 066 cases.
My 1997 066 serial # 134989911 last year flat top has a poly flywheel. After # 134459523 064/066 got the plastic top cover badge
Round top 066 after serial #139176186 in 1998 got limiter caps on carb and EPA labeling.
066 production run started March 15 1991 and ended September 15 2002. MS660 started October 15 2002.

Found an old post by you on forestry forum Mr. Willard. 32DC4859-F777-44F3-BAC7-75474617264C.png It says after serial number #132231 the decomp valve was introduced. Then after serial # 133917 the poly flywheel was introduced... My serial number is #133639983... so it appears the saw is original and a rare model in between poly and metal flywheel changeover. It is not a Frankenstein saw. I already knew that when I split it down to the cases and it had the original fiber base gasket, matching cases old style case gasket and original factory shielded bearings. It certainly is a runner and I enjoy using it.

Those numbers on that old Forestry forum post are wrong.
What I already posted here are correct.

I’m confused by your backpedaling... Why do stihl themselves say poly flwheels were on 133917066 and later models (early 96)? I was told this by my dealer when I was asking for a quote on crank bearings. I was also told by the stihl dealer that there the same bearings on 066 and 660. They just changed suppliers and design slightly over the years. Maybe the info the guy had was wrong?

This is so cornfusing!
SO not a Frankensaw. A real virgin saw with some factory original parts. Cool.
I'mma sign you up to be a private detective.

I would also like to clear up the confusion about the 660 having bigger crankshaft bearings (not the rod bearings, the case bearings). Some members and JMS saws have claimed this in the past. I think the confusion stems from stihl changing the bearing part numbers because they changed suppliers over the years. What is true is that the FLYWHEEL side oil seal seat diameter in the case was increased to fit the larger seal. Yes the crank is also bigger on the flywheel side stub where the larger seal sits... but the actual seat the inner race of the bearing presses onto on the crank is the same size as the 064/066 metal flywheel crank. They use the same bearings. I know this for a fact because a friend and I recently built a 660 and a older 066 with the SAME bearings. Both saws run and cut wood. Lol
