most of the saws I build have the cases decked on a bridgeport milling machine ...to optimize squish. I think its easier than trimming the base of a cylinder. but thats just me. one benefit to doing it this way is that if the cases are mismatched to begin with, the bridgeport mill equalizes them

Yep, quoting myself. This can't be an 044 crank.
There's a solid 1/8" gap between the case halves with it between them. Fml.

Well....who knows how expensive it would be to have that machined. It's only a few minutes of cutting. But it takes me an hour or so to get the case properly a fixed and indicated on the mill.
