most of the saws I build have the cases decked on a bridgeport milling machine ...to optimize squish. I think its easier than trimming the base of a cylinder. but thats just me. one benefit to doing it this way is that if the cases are mismatched to begin with, the bridgeport mill equalizes them

Well crap. I'm not really looking to spend machinist labor on this project. Grr. This isn't a good way to start my first real build.

Here's the crank markings. Any clues to be found?

For sure? Based on what you see here? I'm still in the dark lol...

After talking with Kevin (huskihl) yesterday, I'm thinking about a hybrid also. Definitely watching this thread.

If anyone can screw it up twice, it's me. We're all sure to learn something lol...

The long and short of it...I already require expensive machine work to even start?

And I'll need the 12mm for a hybrid build...but the one in the pictures is definitely a 12mm?

Yep, quoting myself. This can't be an 044 crank.
There's a solid 1/8" gap between the case halves with it between them. Fml.

Well....who knows how expensive it would be to have that machined. It's only a few minutes of cutting. But it takes me an hour or so to get the case properly a fixed and indicated on the mill.

This project is a bust. Now I require a new case or machine work, and a new crank.

No problem with answering questions on my part although most of my replies are rather long and often contain far too many small details. I often get the TLDR rating...LOL

I for one am looking forward to those replies...[emoji41]
