Our local Co-op grocery chain is advertising for temporary help. Shelf stockers, receivers, check out staff and sanitizing crews all being hired immediately. Hopefully some that lost other work can pick some of this up right away.

I just got the call from work to stay home. Plantwide layoff untill this all gets resolved.
Hope the big three go back soon. This sucks. Might have to see if i can sell firewood or some odd jobs.

Which big 3 do you work for? Haven't heard anything from GM yet and they have been keeping us up to date. They are shutting down the training centers for now. We're still going but more safely. Stuff lives inside of cars and trucks longer than in the air.

Got word last night GM is shutting down at the end of the month. Heard they are talking with the government about making protective gear.

Of course were still going until they send tanks to our place.

Any kind of mask is better then nothing .
I don't know what those blue pointy masks are that the Safeway grocery employees are wearing. They don't look like they seal as good as my masks do.
Get my info from the National Post.

I wore dust masks at work for many years. The blue ones (Moldex 2300N95) was actually my preference. They fit my face better than any other and had good seal. I've used the white ones also, but they are hot and squash my nose. I have the blue ones here, for when I am grinding or cleaning mouse nests out of power equipment. My wife used one when she would clean the litter box too.

JT announced that he is giving away the farm so hopefully you guys get the assistance you need. Cheques should start flowing first week of April or so.

With a few hundred thousand all applying for benefits all at once, I will be surprised if we see a cheque before June. I could write a huge rant here but what would be the point. Suffice to say, I am extremely pessimistic about our future.

Medical Laboratory Tech here, yeah, we've been affected! We've just had our first couple confirmed COVIDS around here. Work at a small rural critical access hospital, and the last 2 weeks have been brutal. Rewriting many of our policies and procedures and treating this like ebola or TB basically. The CDC still is uncertain about so much of this, as are we. Worked 82 hours last week, will probable have 60 or more this week, we have most everything worked out now, I am salaried - so no extra pay. I hate the the dam drive up collection for patients that we started, now everybody wants a test just for the hell of it, and it is not that simple. Our health care supplies are dwindling, and looks like a lot of the supplies are on back order. We have to have certain criteria met to establish a protocol for each individual patient. I do not see this thing being contained, but that is only my personal opinion.
I do see the country going into recession with this. Hope not, but again that is only my personal opinion.
As for me, this is what I have to wear if I come in contact with any possible flu or COVID patient, thankfully I will still have a job, and I really feel for the ones getting laid off.

Thank you and hope you stay safe.
As far as the economy goes, you can search for what happens during and after a pandemic. A rule is, history always repeats itself.

Thank you for your extra service in these times.

Thank you, I do appreciate that.
I do appreciate it because most everybody hears what an outstanding job the nurses and doctors are doing and the Laboratory is usually the most unrecognized part of our healthcare system. I hope I didn't say that wrong, I do appreciate the outstanding job all of our healthcare team works together. Working in a hospital, I think everyone of our employees are integral to the health of our community. Funniest thing is, I think housekeeping and our cafeteria people are some of the most important people in our hospital. 90% of our survey complements come from how clean the hospital and how good the food is. Seems like that they are always the lowest paid employees and I always stress to administration how important they are to our well being, and I am always critical of admin not paying them more.

Let me relate our current situation. All initial Covid-19 tests are completed in a single Provincial Laboratory. Each day we are increasing our capacity for swab collection but the lab capacity is what it is. Each day they have been able to increase the number or results given but not at the same rate as the sample collection. Without question they are among our most valued members in the fight against Covid-19 but often not fully recognized. We are reaching the point that it could be 2 days for an initial presumptive test result and longer for confirmation of the positive by the National Lab. We happen to have one of the National Labs here so that eliminates the travel time for the samples but it is still too long a wait.
