Medical Laboratory Tech here, yeah, we've been affected! We've just had our first couple confirmed COVIDS around here. Work at a small rural critical access hospital, and the last 2 weeks have been brutal. Rewriting many of our policies and procedures and treating this like ebola or TB basically. The CDC still is uncertain about so much of this, as are we. Worked 82 hours last week, will probable have 60 or more this week, we have most everything worked out now, I am salaried - so no extra pay. I hate the the dam drive up collection for patients that we started, now everybody wants a test just for the hell of it, and it is not that simple. Our health care supplies are dwindling, and looks like a lot of the supplies are on back order. We have to have certain criteria met to establish a protocol for each individual patient. I do not see this thing being contained, but that is only my personal opinion.
I do see the country going into recession with this. Hope not, but again that is only my personal opinion.
As for me, this is what I have to wear if I come in contact with any possible flu or COVID patient, thankfully I will still have a job, and I really feel for the ones getting laid off.
