Saws I’d consider since I want plug and play.
400c
462c
572xp
500i
Not a bad performer in your list, it's a good time for such a request.

Which one stock? Don’t have time to wait for a ported saw

Money wise the 572xp makes a lot of sense to me and pulls well above its size class stock and even more so once ported.
If you have the dollars to spare the 500i is also a great performer right out of the box and tops on your list I would say as a performer.

I bought a 572 last spring and I am really impressed about how smooth it is and how little fuel it burns, I am not a pro but I do cut about 20 cords of firewood a year, and my last saw was a 460 rancher I used for 10 years, so I dont have much experience with different saws to give much of a comparison, but in my opinion the 572 is a real sweetheart of a saw.

the main reason I went with a husky is the attitude of the stihl dealer near me, no free scabberd, no price break on a couple chains, and couldnt give me much info on comparisions. asked the husky shop and they threw in a scabberd, half price on 2 spare chains and new chaps for $50 instead of $80. it doesnt hurt to shop around, you might be able to get some extras included for a better price that can sway your decision

I think you’re looking at either a 572 or 462 really. If you need bigger you have the 395 already. Smaller and the 261 covers it. I’d say 400 (and I like the 400 a whole lot) but the oiler/chassis aren’t really built for more than about 24” bar without modifying. At that point you might just as well buy the 462 or 572.

What’s the price gap on a 500i vs the 572 currently?
About $500? Definitely something to consider, but if we’re considering brand new professional grade saws to have for a long period of time, maybe it pays for itself. I don’t know if this is in a professional setting or not, but it all matters for sure.

I say 462. 500i isn’t worth the extra coin to me and from the sounds of it won’t be worth it for you either. The husky is a great saw as well if you're about brands. Slightly chunkier you notice that stuff. Both great saws. I’d skip right over the 400 being you have a ported 261.

400- I don’t like the plastic handle. One of the reasons I bought an arctic 261- for a metal handle.
500- substantial cost up front, i think I’ve read about filtration and fuel consumption, and maybe soft av

462- can’t recall anything negative other than concern about longevity since it’s not as heavy built saw as the 572.

572 seems to have great filtration. It’s built for the long haul. Takes real sweet to porting. Only negative is I wish it was all orange. Is the clutch internal or an outer like the 395?

I agree has to be between the 462 and the 572

Flip a coin.

You won't see a 500 pull way ahead of a 462 or 572 until you get in to big bars..and you already have a 395..so..

I've ran a 462 more..but I've ran a 572 enough..both good ones.

572 has an inboard clutch.

If I was a logger and carried one saw I'd have a 500, it's a tweener for tree service guys. It can't pull a 36" like a 661 and it's really no different than a 462 with 20-28" bars plus it's as expensive as a 661 if not more in certain places.

500i is really sloppy av unless you spend more dollars on it.

I came away from my 500i experiences thinking it was just meh. Probably has something to do with owning a few Dolmar 7910s which will go toe to toe with a 500i and for less money too. Cool tech that I hope they use to make the 661 more gooder badass. If I have to upgrade to the 661 springs just to hang a 36” blade on it, then why not just buy the dang 661 in the first place though.

People see a saw make a cut on the internet and get it twisted.

Can a 500 pull a 36" bar..sure.

Would I reef on one cutting a Stump on a hot ass summer day with a less than stellar chain on a 36" bar - no. God help it's 60cc sized clutch and the rest of it's chassis.
