I mean I still like a 272. No love?

Love my Stump/Master 272xp? Always, plus I get to remember the help Randy gave me building it when I had/knew so little. Much like siblings however, the newest baby gets all the attention. First a 266xp came and joined it, then a SSS 044, a Pro Mac 700 and CFB hybrid came along. Now a minty TM 044(the new precious) and a brand new TM 461 join the fleet, along with a coming soon XS 7310. A 372xpXT/365 Special under construction and builder saws MS460 and 575xpg waiting in the wings.
So basically, I have a 70cc saw problem... which one to use.

I guess I've got more 90 cc saws than any other size, but only because I use them for milling and built some Chinese Clones.

My 70 cc saws get the most use ... 10mm 044 (Unported); MMWS 462; MOFO 462; CFB Hybrid; MOFO Hybrid; and MOFO MS460.

Plus, my MOFO 360 pulls like a 70 cc saw!

It is often tough to choose which one to use, but more and more I just got the easy route and select a M-Tronic saw. The tuning automatically adjusts if I change elevations, and the air filters require so much less attention.

272 had its day ........... have you ran a ported 462, or a ported 500i ?
My 372's just hang from a rafter now ............. never thought that would happen
Nah never even ran a ported 272. There’s plenty of faster saws I just dig em. I can work on them myself pretty quickly and easily. (Have a 346 torn down I’ll likely never get back together).
Pretty reliable. Can’t explain it. Just dig em

There's a whole lot of normal folks that never ran any kind of Pro saw ever. A fixed up 272xp(or 044) will serve them not only better than the box store saw they would have bought, it will serve them longer, a lot longer at that, all for about the same money. Besides, giving folks a hand up is a powerful thing. It made sense ten years ago and still makes sense to me now. The only difference being maybe we can add the 372xp(and 440) to that list now.

P.S. Let me know if there's any way I can help you with your 346 problem. ;)

Ol 7900 Tain’t bad. Lil too thirsty for my liking though (same issue the 500i suffers from). I tend to prefer the 7300 over it for actually working and not cutting cookies lol. Damn near the same power and gets a little bit better fuel economy. Good saws for a 20 year old design though. Shame makita is killing them… cause dolmar was a damn good saw manufacturer and had very competitive saws to offer in each class. ECE98D67-D3F5-485D-A225-A26B120B5F39.pngI no longer use them for production cutting. Only used as a spare backup or firewood saw now because I do not want to wear them out. I tend to get better production with my 572 anyway because I can cut more on a tank of fuel and it’s got better ergonomics. Not to mention parts support is more readily available.

Don’t get me wrong the 500i and 7900 are crazy good power to weight and lite for what they are. But you have to carry more gas for them so whose really carrying less weight at end of the day?

It may equal out with the added power, and how much extra fuel they actually burn, which I can't see being more than a few ounces per gallon. If that was a concern I'd be running a 462, low weight, excellent fuel economy and plenty of power IMHO.[emoji111]

Definitely a good option for the stihl guys and anyone running shorter bar lengths.

2F0C7DA0-CAE9-45E6-AD9C-F7E50B01F219.jpeg Just learned about the 288 flag for the 272 full wrap. I’d like to put that together. But yeah those are my two favorites. I built the left one. One on right needs seals. Not a total rebuild on the left but put most everything together on it from a box. Pretty happy with it. One of you fellas sold it to me reasonable

Dolmar PS-7310 (on the right), factory stock, just needs a mild muffler mod to truly wake up (SLR removed, factory outlet enlarged, factory sceeen kept in place).
Very nice fuel economy.

Dolmar PS-6400 (on the left) being 60cc class is not to be frowned upon either.

Nor is the Dolmar PS-7900, though she's thirsty.
