A lot 1128 series and 372 saws sold over the yrs still running good, can't really go wrong with any of the saws built today, pick your favorite flavor, what more important to you? Cost? Filtration? Local support? Brand loyalty? Weight? Carb? Autocarb? You can make an argument for any of them and not be wrong.

IMO it depends on what you are looking for in a 70cc.

From a power standpoint I’d take the 7900 with a gutted muffler or a 462.

The 462 wins the weight section.

Build quality- all of em seem close but the 6203 bearings on the 572 make me think it’s got the edge

Value- the 7900 or the 7310 Echo.

For a work environment- either the 7900 or the 572

But these are the current offerings, you’ve also got the classic 70cc saws i.e the 440, 460, 372, 461, original 7900. But that’s gonna be too many variables

Lol.

Why isn't the 462 in the "work" category ?

My .02 (and it’s worth less than that) is either my hybrid or xpw.

For me, local support. For regular customers, the local shop will loan tools, take parts off new saws in a pinch, troubleshoot & repair saws that they didn't sell, & provide repair tips & methods. Also will advise against models with service issues. All on a first name basis. For local tree services & loggers, though, it's brand loyalty; the equipment is so good these days that there's no reason to switch. Also, they have to save money for when the heavy equipment breaks. One tree guy pointed out to me that chain saws are the cheapest tool on the job besides rigging lines.

They have a lot more torque than the other “true” 70cc offerings.

No, they really don't have any more "torque"

Typically have more broad power band.

But the actual peak tq measured has been less than some the other 70cc class

461,500i,echo hybrids all had more tq when ported.

Now peak horse power? No doubt, a 7900 was the 2nd and 3rd most hp on the dyno. Behind deets hybrid, which has also ran a long bar and won plenty of races.

"Well those 7900 weren't ported for torque".

I do believe 1 was the winning or 2nd place build off saw with 24" bar buried. So if cut times are an indicator of true power then where does that leave the rest of the class?

They ran a 7900 with a choked 6400 cat muffler on it. Real accurate example of the model . Couldn’t care less anyway. Lol

Who is They?

All the saws tested are my saws with the exception of the 462.

Really didn't want to personally buy every brand new 70cc saw just to share/argue/debate info with my own $$$ and time.

Guess i should have bought a new 462, and 7900 Makita.

Then maybe it would have been close to as accurate as hogging on a log after doing a muffler mod.

So, the papa Smurf colored 7900 that my local hardware store / dealer tried to fix coulda been awesome?

Musta been a damn lemon from the factory because it may pull 84 drivers as in spin it. But bar buried it was slow as molasses. If I had only knew forum pros like Mason back then I coulda saved it from going to firewood duty. But the dude I gave it to probably appreciates it
