The ptex anearobic gasket maker (same as loctite 518) hasnt shown any problems after being frozen for two winters straight. Ive done a half dozen plastic clamshell jobs with it and no issues. Ive never let it cure longer than it takes to put the rest of the saw together and fire it up. Havent had a failure yet
Good to know, thank you.

I use 518 for almost all my non gasket seals, but was told not to use it on clamshells. I used Dirko on the two clamshells I did, they were a PITA, but it worked.

Make sure you don't get any sealer on the seals.

I was told the Dirko works better where it meets the seals (than 518).

I prep the surfaces with Q tips sprayed with Brake Cleaner. Almost like doing a White Glove test!

So, after I split and hauled out of the backyard, and loaded the trailer, and delivered a 1/2 cord of wood, I cut the grass, then got started on a new Asian 660. (4:30 pm till 8:45, with dinner brake). Got the case together w/o messing up a seal, installed a piston and checked #s, and opened up the gasket and muffler to match the exhaust port.

I have a Cross Cylinder that has been ported for it, and I gotta say I'm pleased with the #s. W/O base gasket, Sq is .025, Ex 100.5, Tr 120.5 and Intake 80.5. Almost perfect!

The only thing I was not crazy about is the intake port (on the outside) was off center and did not seem to have been matched to the boot, so I did that. The inside had been epoxied a bit to get it up to 80.5.

Tomorrow I'm working with my brother all day, so will not have any time to play more with this, maybe on Sat progress will resume!

Thin or not, motoseal works fine. I get the piston started in the cylinder, smear motoseal on the case side only with a q tip, and bolt the jug down. I'd rather the sealant be wet still so it actually bonds to both surfaces. I always wipe both surfaces with carb cleaner first.

Of the 2 tubes I've gone through in 2 years, it still cures after it freezes every night and thaws every day I'm out there.
Rebuilt dozens of saws with motoseal many no base gasket.
Never a failure
I always clean the surfaces completely.
Qtip it let it set up a minute
Bolt it down.
I got some china 372s in that had motoseal looking stuff on it.
Very minimal coverage
None of them leaked a little goes a long way.

Yea, and if I can only get that darn chain adjuster working right, it may actually run and cut wood some day!
Put the gear in a drill and on the wide end of the gear run it on a good file a little bit at a time that will make it fit I did that with mine and I heat treated both the gears mine work's as good as oem now.

Dave, you're almost there, barbeque the *b-word!
Runs strong after some work
Even with the trash chain that's on it
I gave all my chain's away
That would fit this saw
Have to order some.
The piston kit was 3.00 plus ship
Hl christmas special
Fuel line and motoseal
Cheap fix
