038 Super getting a cleanup. New piston, av mounts, spark plug wire. It’s not really my style, took it in with a bundle.
It's looking really good. Decent saw, especially being a super! I worked on both an 038 and 038 Super and preferred the super between the two.

My problem with the purty ones is that I feel bad about running them. Looks good to me…now it just needs a port job and a 42” bar.
Got my 36” .404 on it now… but would love to have a 42-52ish bar for my 48” mill rails! I’d like to tickle it a bit after I use it for a little while.

Got a clutch cover that wasn’t cracked from EBay and installed old pieces plus a new brake band and new OEM flag on it.

I am missing a few small pieces:

I need the rubber buffers that go between the cases and the tank/handle. There are two of them. I also need an idle speed screw and the blue extension that goes through the grommet. I fitted a 272xp idle screw to the carb, which has been working fine for now.

Here’s where those rubber isolators go:

Ready to sell to someone that says ‘you can tell it’s quality saw because of the weight’

I've had an 038 Super for a while, one of my first non- yellow saw purchases . I replaced alot of rubber parts on it and it followed me to alot of storm clean ups in the park service. The guys loved that I didn't hesitate to use a vintage saw for actual work. I never worried about it getting dinged up being used ,built like a tank!
