This is a Craftsman, how much was a Stihl in 1947?
Not sure, but here is what a Stihl from about that time looked like:

Completed the scrap pile 460 project today.

Aftermarket tank, but used OEM parts on it.
I have an 046 I found a the dump, had to do the same thing and got an aftermarket fuel tank. I should have replaced the oil seals and bearings, but didn't, at the time the process was very daunting. Was cutting firewood and scorred the piston, due to an air leak. Not sure how bad the cylinder is yet. I really liked that saw, will definitely get it back running again.

The cream and bronze saw is a Montgomery Wards A-400. I had one a few years ago and gave it away because it was missing the starter. This one popped up on eBay and someone (who knew I regretted giving one away) sent me a link. This one is missing the chain, but I'm hoping the seller will follow through on their promise to look where they found the saw. It appears as though it had never been run but it is missing a lever to operate the oiler. The other saw is a Lombard waiting to get cleaned up.

The earlier one had a very interesting chain design.

The Super XL LE cleaned up nicely.

Another siezed, straight gassed 500i across my bench, this saw is just over 2 years old and has had fairly heavy usage by a firewood merchant. This one is interesting though, it has historical damage - the top ring locating pin has worked itself loose sometime in the past and exited out the top of the piston. The ring has rotated in the groove (however hasn't caught in the ports) and has stuck in its current location with the siezure. There's quite substatial damage to the cylinder above the intake port too with a line that can be easily caught with my fingernail.

Nope, it was his worker. Apparently he adds the oil after the fuel and forgot to give the fuel can a good shake before he fueled the saw.
/facepalm
I had a customer who filled his saw with straight gas and then poured in some 2-stroke oil, didn't even bother to shake the saw and went to work. He seemed to believe that the oil would spread around like food coloring in water....nope!

Have intended for a long time to test how long it takes mix to "mix" without agitation.
