Decided to go nuclear with the little 31.7cc Green Machine (that might be a Homelite product). Couldn't get it to fully tune in correctly, so we decided to split the clam shell case apart and reseal it with some fresh Dirko.

This is a work in process.

It looks to me that some of the 40+Year old sealant may not have been doing it's job as intended.

This did get new crank seals with some Threebond, but it wasn't quite enuf.

The county brought in 5 saws and a pole saw, another local dropped of a small Stihl, the Homelites and Stihl trimmer are done just waiting for pick up, and the rest are of few of my projects for the winter...

srcarr52 stopped by today, I didn't think to get a photo of us here, but he dropped off a couple of nice additions for the museum.

I need to get them going on the new building...

Looks like the limited edition super xl will clean up nice. I got a Big Red recently. Now I need that version and the Old Blue. I’ve seen them Stihl cans of Facebook locally but folks want crazy money for them around here.

I should also point out that the Stihl Combi-Can and the Montgomery Wards A-400 have made it up front to the display but I'm running out of space so they are currently setting on the floor.

I installed a loop of 1/2" pitch chipper chain on the MW saw, still hoping the seller can find the original Beaver chain for it.

From the archives:

The Combi-Can cleaned up nicely and I left a decent amount of tools in the box for authenticity.

I am more than happy to help store some of the McCullochs at my house, I have room on my kitchen table, coffee table and some space in the kids rooms... :D

Only the finest genuine Chinese PT5000.

I am trying to zero out the timekeeping. It runs very consistently. There is a little friction between the regulator fingers and hairspring. If I move the fine adjust enough to overcome friction it jumps between -2 and +2 seconds per day.

Maybe I need to move the adjustment half as far and then run the reciprocating saw for a dither signal.

12/19/04 Project Update:

The mechanical watch is a toy. We all know that toys cannot be justified so why waste your time trying. I ordered a fine Chinese timegrapher to facilitate playing with my fine Chinese PT5000 based watch. That was also a toy and therefore required no justification.
Initial measurement was as close as I could measure to how the watch was actually running. I ran a few more tests in various orientations and determined it runs fastest face up, a few tenths slower face down or on a side. Mechanical watches should run slowest on their side as balance wheel jewel friction is higher in those orientations. Face up and face down should be the same and slightly faster. Face down was slower than face up so finish must be a little rougher on that end of the balance wheel shaft. I'll let it rest on its face at night to slowly polish that out.

I regulated the watch face down as it's easiest to adjust in that orientation. Face up and down should equalize over time. less that 0.1 second per day error, 300 degree amplitude and 0.0 mS beat error are umm... nice numbers. Amplitide runs 330-ish face up due to the better finish on that end of the balance shaft.

Anyone try to repair sm holes in the old Husky mesh filters? I’ve heard nail polish might work but what about Dirco or other sealers? I have a bunch of the older ones that just need some help.

I have used PlioBond, Seal All, and Liquid Tape to patch small areas on flocked air filters, I've never had the need to try and patch a mesh filter.

I'm not sure Liquid Tape is fuel resistant but it does set up very quickly...

I have also used some thin felt from Hobby Lobby to manufacture air filters for a few older saws when original or AM parts were not available.

I'll likely get some chainsaw cleaning/staging done today for when supplies arrive. There's a fresh tube of 1184 and a selection of SKF V3 bearings and seals somewhere on the journey. Along with the Green Machine/Homelite, one of the Partners, a 500, is suspected to have at least one bad crank bearing, so it will get tore down and inspected at a minimum.

I'll likely be looking for a pair of gaskets for this Partner 500 as well, suspected p/n's
1) 505-27-21-21 cyl base gasket
2) 505-27-21-24 Case gasket, fits Fits Partner 500 5000 5000+, and maybe Jonsered 490 590

There may be some more cross references to some Husky's gasket seal / kits as well, I am looking for those p/n's as well.

I very well may have a NOS gasket set for the 490-590, I can look this weekend.
