That doesn’t look like a beater saw to me. Nice score I’d say.

Yeah. It’s slightly better than a beater but really it’s not a pristine saw. Maybe this will be a canadate for a full rebuild powder coat and handed down to one of my boys some day. But for now I’ll just slap a 20” bar and 8pin rim and let-r-rip.

I'm trying to get a few saws cleaned up and moved into the display this week. The 250 Brush Cutter was one, the Poulan Pro 455 FirePRO was another, the Roper/Sears H58G another.





Currently undergoing a serious clean up is this Stihl 08S.



This is my first time inside one of these, curious how the oil tank and oil pump are contained in the clutch cover.

I can tell ya that oil pump is a RARE BIRD if it's still in tact.
Good luck finding another.

Missing the oil pump naturally...

I think the jug is quite usable , small marks at transfer port and intake port bottom,,
I found the culprit as well. 066 lotsa hours.

So I decided to give my 044 some love today. It acted kind of funny last time I ran it and didn’t want to hold a tune real well. So I benched it until today.
Do I need to put the clutch on to seal the pto side because it’s leaking down the sleeve the oil pump rides on. Or should there be a little oring on the inside or just a dab of grease all the way around?

Well my theory was correct. Clutch on and it holds 10 lbs and over the course of a minute it leaks to 6 or so then holds. My rubber exhaust cover was leaking a bit and when i pinch the top it holds forever.

Todays challenge
Early 288 with non decomp cylinder
This had been left outside for some time without plug and top cover resulting in a crankcase full of water with corrosion and rust starting.
Cylinder came off easily, splitting the cases was difficult, crank had to be forced to move to get the case splitter in and it was very tight.
Not sure if cases will be salvageable yet.

I had something similar in H42, the seller said that it is enough to change the piston ;-) The cylinder was good so it must have been a disposable boat anchor ;-)

034 on the bench for a cleaning and a check over. It wasnt running too good. Kept going rich and stalling on idle no matter how much low was leaned up gonna pressure and vac test some time this week to make sure and if thats good will open up the carb and see if its good in ther.

Echo 590 was on bench too for a clean and quick repair. The chain adjuster pin broke so put a used one on i had in spare parts bin. Not sure what it came off of but it worked lol

Dang the body style is one of, if not my favorite. Just so impractical…

I ended up passing on the roached '77. Just picked up the frame (it's a '76 not a '71), an M20 Muncie, and complete 350, and a metric *s-word-ton of C3 parts that I need to unload.

Im pretty sure that the "late" cylinder has a decomp port or at least a blank for one?
