went to my dealer to pick up parts today.
Very happy that I got the 3 service tools I ordered, special the 242 seal sleeve:

I also got one nice price for Huskies case splitter, gone order one next time :) for that price I don't even bother to make one!

60$ for a low hour crank, usable p&c, new 346 carb, couldn't resist the deal:

Stihl KM85R power head in for a re-seal. Don't think this is a case of mag rot, porosity in the casting maybe? @afleetcommand
Maybe but don't discount the rot concept either. You do have the steel and such in the bearings and crank....so if corrosion was going to happen...which do YOU think is on the wrong side of the periodic table?? :) Looks like a job for an OEM gasket augmented with a good goo gasket material...1184 (Bet you didn't see that coming..:) )

1990 Yamaha Big Bear, report was sometimes squeeks in reverse, and oil leak.
As you can see the one yoke is fubar, one ujoint cap is awol. Look like ujoint went then somebody kept riding, bent yoke, that shook front yoke enough as to loosen it, so now oil leaks past yoke splines, nut and washer, once I got it apart I could see where the entire rear axle housing had a big weld job, looks good from outside. Would like to know where the other cap is,,,the housing is closed....
You think saw parts are expensive,,,,

Oh yeah it can add up in a hurry on those wheelers. One rear CV joint I replaced over the summer was over 3 bills. Took about ten minutes to install. Customer wasn't happy about it but that's what you get for running them to failure.

I agree that if something were going to rot it would be the cases before the bearings or crank. The strange thing is I did not see any "white death" just this porosity, electrolysis maybe? Already back together and running, no gasket on the case halves, Hondabond HT only.

"White death" is usually corrosion to open air or something like sitting on concrete.. if its pure electrolysis...all you going to see is the pits.....and the white death will be around joints where "oxidation" can happen.
