I haven't heard anything about Stihl owning Walbro, but I guess its possible.
I can't quite remember the story, but it sure seems like the control a hell of a lot of walbro. Many of the newer stihls have walbro carbs and the new numbers don't even register on the walbro.com site!

On my bench today, I had a really good mates ms660.
He was cutting fence posts last weekend, when the saw lost power,& wouldnt "pull the skin off a rice pudding "
I feared the worst!!
I got a look at it today, plug was carbon'd up, but not grey:)
A look into the muffler showed a perfect piston
So we ventured into the carburettor, screws are around 1 turn out each=pretty good.
Removed the metering diaphragm cover, only 2 find this.....

Not the best picture, but it's actually the sealer that normally is put around the welch plug.
It had come loose and sucked into the high speed jet,it was about 12mm long, with 5mm protruding into the jet.
Problem solved in 30minutes, 1 hell of a happy Mate!:):)

A 266 XP (words cannot describe how dirty this saw was when it came in) for a new fuel line, filter, tank vent, and AV mounts. If you work on any 2xx series Husqvarnas at all I highly recommend you get the spanners, worth every penny.

how you feeling joe and did you get the 650 going

Better but I still run out of wind/pep a lot sooner than usual, so I am not back up to snuff yet. But at least I don't feel like my lungs are on fire anymore, thanks for asking buddy. Yes I got the MS 650 buttoned up today, lit right off and ran like a dream. I sharpened the chain, dressed the bar, and set her pig rich for break in.

Tearing down the MS441 I got here from another member. She was dirty but the cylinder looks good but some funky wear/damage on the old piston? What would cause this? It's all pitted around the outer perimeter of the top. Similar pattern in the dome of the cylinder. This cylinder does has a thread sert repair for the spark plug. Could it have been chips from the thread sert installation that got squashed in between the piston and cylinder? There wasn't anything floating around in there when I took it apart. Checked the case, it's clean as well.
Thoughts?

@MS290man I would suspect engine knocking or a heat problem.
- Compression too high (squish too low)?
- Lower-octane gas
- Wrong spark plug (too hot)
- Overheating because of insufficient cooling (dirty cooling fins etc)
- lean tuning

how does the spark plug look?
