just a lonely echo waiting for a replacement rim, drum, bearing to come in from oregon.
btw this is where i work part time but soon to be full time at a local hardware store.
it can suck because they sell those cheap poulans beside stihl's and i done put fuel lines and carburetors on them till im sick of it.

Never had to work on it, but love my Polaris 570! Fuel injection, engine breaking, a real work horse and a very nice suspension.

But, if I have to work on a saw, hands down I will take a 044/440 or 046/460! I've worked on other models, but they have all been more of a PITA! (but I'm learning).

Thanks to @Mastermind for the how to cylinder repair, there is a whole 306A that runs on my bench. Once I put the diamond ball to the score I could see exactly why I was doing what I was doing. Also props to Husqvarna that supplied the base gasket, even though it literally took a month of Sundays to arrive from China? No matter, was surprised they supported that saw at all. Was nice to work with "American" tools for a change of pace. Also pretty straight forward as far as taking apart and putting back together, not all that much different from a McCulloch 10-10, the Poulan being a little bit more integrated. Once the carburetor was primed she fired in three pulls. Did a little preliminary tuning, sure does sound sweet.

a 441 is a pain but the mini mac and ms 362 take the cake 5lbs of chit in a 1lb bag is the best way i can explain it.

I've always liked my 460 I got new in 04'. But I can say after porting it
it's like you made it MAD as HELL. lol

IMO, 460s respond to porting very, very well! Conversely, while there is more gain to be had, 044/440 respond to dp muff and HD-2 filter very, very well. And a base gasket delete and timing advance really brings them to life!

I checked mine with no gasket and it was .007

And my gasket was compressed to
.0175
So I shaved .005 off the base.

I believe the 441 was one of the first Stihls with both clean air fiter design and M-Tronic. Yes, some growing pains, and room for improvement, but they also had a loyal following, they were a bit ahead of their time. I believe they used to be Randy's favorite 70 cc saw.

I had a non M-Tronic one, and no complaints, never gave me a problem.

Yeah I never had a problem. Stihl said the engine being mounted in springs caused a bad harmonic in the engine and caused failures.

046/460s often have more compression stock than 044/440. My 046 had 175 stock. I deleted the gasket on both an 044 and a 440 and it resulted in squish of 20/1000 and 19/1000, respectively, ... perfect!

I would be scared to run it that tight. Would prefer squish at 20/1000, but would not run less than 17/1000. Just would not take the chance. Don't want to worry if my saw gets hot!
