Have you tested the pop off pressure ? Pop the diaphragm and cover in place without the screws as a second test as iv had a ok test with a open top and then it failed the assembled test.
This may help...all the kits for the WJ 48 (that carb seems to be for a 064) K15-WJ and D 10-WJ seem to have a fork connecting Diaphragm pin . Could there be a issue there if it hasnt got that sort in it ??

1 of 2 saws I bought today.

poulan 3450 54cc with small dawg and front muffler exit like I like. Like new oem chain and bar.

Guess the other 2 3450 on bench #2 move further back on the list. :risas3:

OK guys, I've never seen anything like this before, but I think I see what happened to the MS461. Seems like the bottom of the piston broke (why???), then came up through the transfers, whacked the spark plug closed (if I did not see the owner start the saw, I would not have believed it would run), then on the way out the exhaust, dented the top of the piston and froze the top ring. How does a saw run w/o any spark plug gap???

Only damage to the cylinder seems to be a tiny pin prick I can not even feel, so I think I am safe in re-using the jug.

Comments on the pics welcome. I can't figure why it happened, the bearings all seem just fine.

The Mfg date is June of 13, and it is one of the cleanest saws I've ever taken apart (and it is a commercial use saw).

Hmmm. You might be on to something. I'm gonna get out my walbro cross reference book and have a look. And need to find the diaphragm I took out of it. I'll report back. Thank you simon

this is the kit I have in it. Walbro application manual calls for this kit.

Maybe my wife came up with the best explanation I can think of ... someone dropped it. I know the climber uses this saw, and the owner has complained that all of his chain covers are cracked because they "just throw the saws down".

Wonder if a dropped running saw could cause the lower piston damage ... OPINIONS???

There is a small crack in the chain cover of this saw, but no other obvious damage.

Are all the needles in the con rod bearing? I had one that looked similar. Bearing felt tight but one was missing after closer inspection. Looks like they were running crap for oil or the rings weren't broke in good.

I will check it again, they ran the saw the way it was (with one ring frozen and the spark plug gap closed), I can't believe it ran but he started it in front of me (there was some smoke).

Rod/Piston bearings are all there. I really don't see any evidence of any metal other than aluminum being in there.
Make sure a cage hasn't started coming apart. That's the only other thing I can think of that something could have chipped the piston unless it swallowed something down the intake.

The missing chunk is lined up with the rod, I wonder if somebody spun it over with no jug and cracked the piston

A brand new MS391 that came in not starting. Turned out you could barely pull start it! I thought it was straight gassed....checked the fuel and it was mixed and old smelling....checked the air filter and it was dirty but not as bad as I have seen. Fast forward to today and I pull start it for the heck of it and everything is perfectly fine...as if nothing happened. Great compression...smooth...didn't start it. Pulled the cylinder and the bottom end looks great...rings are even broke in...skirts are ok. Tad bit of scoring but nothing major. This outta be interesting!

Also an MS192TC that needs more than the minor tune up it came in for.
