3120 is going back together slowly. Got all the parts today to put my 385 and 044 together. Fixed the bar stud in the efco today with a helicoil. Got to get a 7900 on the bench soon for Carl. Might get motivated for that one tomorrow.

You're right Jim, I've seen both of those issues already....several times too. It's amazing how much more there is to learn once you start messing with these little engines.

The word "little" rings a bell pretty loud. A little ms180c has taught me more about building saws than anything else I've tinkered with. This is a 10" Scott's pine cant I'm cutting with it. I'm thinking about building a pipe out of tin soup cans for it and having a soup label powdered onto the chamber can. Lol
It is also an open port cylinder.

So, I got a call from a local tree guy after dinner "can I drop off my 460?" Sure I told him. Said the problem is that it has no power in the cut.

Compression seemed very strong, and I pulled the muffler and although the piston was not pretty, it was not scored.

Next I pulled the fuel filter, and it looked almost as black as the plastic. I was confident I found the problem, but I dumped the fuel and pulled the plug. My gosh, I'm surprised the saw ran with the plug that was in it. Even the threads were rusty, took a few Q-Tips with WD-40 to clean the threads before I installed a new one.

Also decided to give him a few upgrades, put a HD-2 filter on it, and a dp muffler with a large hole. Also pulled the limiters in the carb.

I did get a scare when I pulled the muffler. Something was hanging there, thought it was like gasket stuff, but no, had to pull the top cover to get it out, was looking like spark plug insulation, but thankfully no! Was just an old piece of starter rope that was stuck in there and chewed up good.

Had it all ready to go tonight, was dying to start er up, but can't do that to the neighbors. I'll sharpen the chain, fuel it, start it and tune it in the morning.

I think he will be pleased with how it runs, and how fast I got it back to him. Now, if the parts for his 660 would only come in!

Not sure what's going on here!

Sad part is the saw was very clean aside from the metal shavings everywhere. Hadn't been run much if at all since the "upgrades". Me thinks he knew exactly what he was selling. Sorted out all the broken bits, ordered some new parts. Damn cylinder screw broke right off while lightly spinning it so I could get some numbers off the cylinder :/

That 357xp might look familiar.

I must be gettin used to these 460s, the adjustments I made to the carb (after pulling the limiters) worked perfectly, the saw barely 4 stroked, idled well, and cleaned right up in the wood w/o any further adjustment!

The chain was shot, almost worn out and uneven teeth, so I replaced it with a used one I had that was more than 90%.

Brought the saw to the job site he was working this morning. He tried it out, smiled, and handed me his 461 that is not running right! I'm starting to wonder what I have gotten myself into here!

Dang, I knew everything could not go as smooth as fixing that 460! Pulled the muffler on the 461 and did not like the little metal particles I saw in there. The piston does not seem scored on the exhaust side, but there is a noticeable chunk missing from the top of it on the exhaust side. Have not pulled the jug, but the back side may have some scoring.

Hope I can save the jug on this, or this may get expensive. Not a lot of used 461 jugs out there.

I seem to remember some problems with heat in these things based on the new design. If anyone can jog my memory with specifics, and if it would seem to fit this situation, I'd appreciate it. I need to do a few other things before I rip this one down.

Thanks.

Have my 066 I ported on the bench. [emoji53]. Tried to start it for the first time on Sunday and it's flooding bad. I put a new carb kit in and cleaned it before I tried starting it. It's a wj48 carb. Adjusted metering lever to flush with the body of carb. Both needles are turned out 1 turn. Tried again and still flooding. So I think I'm gonna clean it again and see what happens. Whenever you adjust the metering lever height, which part of it are you bending? Could I be missing something else that's causing this??

Not had a WJ 48 to work on myself but one thing that i thought might be posable ...is the metering diaphragm the sort that has a pin that slips into the metering lever fork like in some Tillitsons ?

That's the first thing I looked at when I took it back apart was to see if it clips into the diaphragm and it does not. Maybe a leaky Welch plug or??

Have you tested the pop off pressure ? Pop the diaphragm and cover in place without the screws as a second test as iv had a ok test with a open top and then it failed the assembled test.
